The title basically says it all. I came across this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mnnNnCWQKoE and some forum posts stating to stay clear of the Steelseries Qck mouse pads due the an issue with the Logitech G500 skipping on the surface. I have also read that the Razer Destructor is one of or even the best gaming surfaces but some say that the it deteriorates within a matter of 3 - 4 months of extensive use. It has also been said that the Logitech G500 works best on hard mouse surfaces.

I'd really love some feedback from those of you who have extensively used this mouse about some gaming surfaces. I am going to be making my purchases within a few hours. My budget is $30 USD

Thanks in advance :)

I've used the G500 since January on my Steelseries S&S mousepad. For me, the S&S has worked great. It's a large pad and doesn't seem to slip around a lot.

I haven't used any other mousepad with the G500, so I can't comment or compare the S&S to the other hard/cloth mousepads that are out there.

Using a Steelseries Qck+ with my G500 and it is pretty awesome. Cloth pads for life.

Depends on what kind of a feel you would like, if you wanted something very slick and fast, look at plastic mouse pads or glass. If you want something that has a nice feel on your wrist and a slight amount of friction, take a look at cloth, there's a comparison of a bunch of different cloth pads on this forum if you are interested...

ratpadz xt works 100% beautifully with my g500. I do believe if you don't like it they take it back without any questions asked.

Razer Destructor here with a G9x. Love it. Got it for a hair under $30 I believe.

Razer Destructor w/ G500....Flawless

The only drawback about the Destructor is that tends to be a little hard on the mouse's feet, but you can always buy replacements.

^^I second this. I got my destructor off a trade so pretty much free and I'm really diggin it so far. Have a g500 as well but I'm thinking about going back to the g5.

RatpadzXT working fine with mine other than an odd mouse skip in WoW once and a while

Using a rocketfish with a G5 . Think it was $19. Cant comment on the 500. but it's got to be similar.

I picked up a random $15 mouse pad from BestBuy a few years back that I have enjoyed quite a bit. The main surface is made of a hard plastic that has given me no problems, and it is very durable because the plastic surface is surrounded by metal. The only real drawback is that the silver paint on the metal has been rubbed off by my wrist over the years.

The point I am trying to get across is you should check out a few retailers and see what types of mouse pads they offer. You might be surprised and find one you actually like without having to purchase a more expensive one.

I'm also using the Rocketfish hard mouse pad with my G500. It's very nice. Only problem is that the rubber "feet" weren't stuck on very well. I ended up pulling them off entirely and cutting up some non-slip rug liner. Works well, and gives the pad some cushioning.

Just letting you guys know that I ended up buying a Razer Destructor and I'm fully satisfied with it :)

I went with the best of both surfaces (hard and cloth) with the Steelseries 5L. It's huge and very responsive.

I was using mine on a Ratpadz XT, but the smallish size of the pad really started bother me. So I dug up my old Steelseries 5L, which was ok but I was looking for a little smoother of a surface.

I ended up with a Steelseries SX. That's the Aluminum surface one. It's hands down the best pad I've ever owned. The only other one I've gotten to use that I thought was as good is the Steelseries S&S.

Mouse pads are just gimmicks. If you must have one, go on eBay or something and find yourself a Razer Sphex for $10. Those are awesome, and cheap, but still awesome.

I disagree. While I do agree that a majority of "gaming" mouse pads are grossly overpriced, people prefer different amounts of friction.

Agreed! This Razer Destructor made a HUGE difference for me.

Is the Destructor extremely smooth? I'm guessing yes with that gun metal coating.
I've been using the Func 1030 for years and prefer the rougher side. How do they compare?

I meant to change out my Func with another a year ago, but slipped my mind.

If you want the smoothest thing ever, get an Icemat or a Steelseries Experience. They're ridiculously slick with Hyperglides, but they're picky about dirty and dust so cleaning is a pretty regular thing with it.

How does Destructor feels on your wrist after longer usage? Also, how "bad" it gets after months, like someone mentoined? I am currently using G5 with Steelseries 5L, got it for like 3 years and it is getting a bit sloppy, i'd say the movement isnt that smooth anymore. I am not sure whether to switch over Destructor or some other pad with solid surface or stick to cloth. I wouldnt like to replace it possibly for another 2-3 years.

I'd describe it as smooth enough not to hinder your hand movement whatsoever, yet with just the right amount of friction not to be slippery and inaccurate.

After using it for hours on end I have definitely noticed that it does not hurt or put a strain on my wrist at all. This was a huge plus in my book honestly. I'm unable to currently comment on the degradation over months of use because I've only had it for one month so far. I could always give an update if you'd like. One thing I MUST say about this mouse pad, is that even if there is a minute spec of dust on it, you feel it with your hand an mouse alike. This is a huge plus for me. I definitely know when it's perfectly clean.

I have a steelseries qck. works great

I was about to order one of those then I saw a video on Youtube showing the G500 mouse skipping on that surface. I didn't want to take any chances but it looked like a great gaming surface.

Yea, this is what I've been researching as well. I'm planning to upgrade my G5 to a G500 and looking around for a good mousepad. From what I read, the G500 is most efficient on hard non-cloth surfaces/mousepads. There seems to be tracking problems (negative acceleration) on a cloth surface.

The guy in the video link is demonstrating the problem. This problem may be a a con to some. It sure will for me. I've heard of the 9HD being recommended. I'm still doing research before I buy anything atm.

Just ordered a Steelseries 4HD after years of using the func 1030.

Apparently the G500 has the same sensor as the Steelseries Xai which is supposed to be matched to the 4HD.

I'm still on a deathadder though and plan on getting a G500 when they go on sale again. Will report back.

I'd be careful about what steelseries says... I'm sure you won't have any issues with that combo (probably would have chosen the 9hd which is the exact same but larger)... However, they say the kinzu works great on any surface, and a user from another forum bought that along with a Steelseries SX and it didn't work at all. He contacted support and there was nothing they could do for him, it wasn't defective.

still rocking my 6 year old alienware funcpad.. been working great with each new generation Logitech mouse

I used to have a G5 on a QcK+... great combo a couple years ago.

Anyway, I got the G9x for $50 recently and was looking for a nice pad. I actually ordered a QcK mini (leaving for college soon, limited space), but canceled it because I read that the G9x doesn't track very well on QcK pads. I've ordered the 4HD instead, so we'll see how it goes. I think the surface is much better suited for the G9x's sensor.

Awesome buy on the mouse. Yea, I also was looking at the QcK's, but heard the sensors of the G9x and G500 were same and didn't track well on those mousepads. I bought today a 9HD, which is pretty much the same as yours just a little bigger. I'm hoping that I bought a good mousepad to pair with my G500 (which I also bought today lol).

I'v bought destructor, which is supposed to have same surface as 9HD. It is okay i guess, if you like plastic surfaces. Little rough at start, but you get used to it. It will scratch the teflons on your mouse too, but its nothing major :p
