Just received mine today from Newegg. UPS did a number on the box but a cursory examination indicates that there was no damage to the contents. Not that Newegg cared... they just stuck a label to the box and mailed it as-is. They didn't even tape it up - it could be opened without breaking any seals/tape!

Nah, paid $100 because Newegg charges $20 more for red. :(

Holy crap I would've refused the shipment. That box is totally fucked.

i'll have to see if they have these at frys or not

AFAIK Fry's doesn't distribute Lian Li. Or at least the Northern California ones never did.

It was just sitting on my doorstep when I got home.

Not that it makes a difference whether I'm home or not. Seems a tossup whether I even get a cursory doorbell ring. Sometimes I'll hear a "thud" of something hitting the door and then a vehicle driving off. Hey, a package arrived! Sometimes I see the package the next day when I leave.

Alrighty, a ninja double post...

I started to assemble my PC-T7R. Parts list:
Lian Li PC-T7R chassis
BFG EX-1000 PSU
DFI mobo
Core i5 750 CPU
Cooler Master Hyper TX3 cooler
graphics card - undecided
VelociRaptor 300GB (from wife's rig which got an SSD)
Seagate 1.5TB
Pioneer slim slot load DVDRW

Now, any of you guys familiar with this chassis will go "uh oh, not enough drive bays." The PC-T7R only holds a single 3½" HDD. Well, earlier today I ordered this item:
Lian Li EX-553B It adapts the optical drive bay to hold a notebook (slim) optical drive plus a single 3½" HDD (or two 2½"). So, I won't be able to finish my build until that comes in, but I'm looking forward to it. I didn't order it earlier because I wanted to start assembling the thing to see if I can shoehorn extra drives somewhere. For those on a budget, you can probably just foam-tape stuff together and I'm sure nobody will know unless you point it out to them. Anyways, I just thought the adapter was pretty nice for adding that extra drive. Now I can use all three SATA ports on the mobo!

Couple random thoughts on the case...

For the motherboard standoffs and the thumb screws on the sides, the screw holes have threaded inserts which should make it more durable than just threaded aluminum holes.

You can stack motherboard standoffs to raise the motherboard. I guess you want to do this if the motherboard has stuff on the back. On mine the plastic backplate almost touches because it is bowed outwards. The slot support has extra brackets (preinstalled) to raise it to match. I had to take off the extra brackets because I'm not raising the board.

The front panel wires are the normal length found in tower case, around 24". This means they are comically too long for this. See pics below.

The handle has a flat insert so carrying it shouldn't cut into your hand.

The front panel ports (USB/Firewire/audio) are apparently optional, as is the fan mount shown in some pictures online.

Enjoy the pics below.

Got my two T7's setup.. windows 7 gaming/media rig on the left and linux dev box on the right :)

That's a pretty slick looking setup. If it were me, I would have to sleeve the cables though. I just don't like seeing a rainbow of wires everywhere.

UPDATE!

I got this adapter so that I can have a second HDD.

Here it is! Pretty basic for costing 1/4 what the whole case cost.

HDD installed.

Slim ODD installed.

Slot load ODD FTW!

I also cleaned up the 2' long front panel wires.

Here's a complete walk-around of the built system. I changed the PSU from earlier. It is now an EX-1200, with short cables! Yup, cables were so short that the 8-pin EPS wouldn't reach so I had to use an extension, plus the hardwired PCIe wouldn't reach so I had to use a normal length modular cable. The 24-pin barely reached!

Heh. I reckon using that thing as a permanent case would get a few looks from both geeks and non-geeks alike.

$69 on the egg for Red and 459 for Black. I may just have to get one of these!

Ordered it the other day in black. $59 + $4.99 s/h - 10% coupon. $58 shipped.

OOh, looks like it would be really close. The mounting holes are underneath the back of the graphics card, just past the corner of the motherboard. My thought is that Lian Li made it so that a card will fit with it. Perhaps you can ask Performance PCs?

BTW the fan is a great idea. I don't have one and I've been having problems with the mouse disappearing, but only during LAN parties where it gets really hot (like last night, 20 people/gaming rigs packed into a basement). I touched the chipset heatsink and it was burning hot! I need to either rig up something or buy one of those fans.

EDIT: Just had a thought... maybe I can make one out of an aluminum angle bracket? It just has to hold the bottom edge of the fan. I'll try it and take pics. Gotta try out my new drill press anyways. :D

Great system you have there, Zap! How good is this case for carrying around to LAN's and such? I assume the handle does its job.

As far as the heat issue is concerned, perhaps you should try a down draft CPU cooler like the AXP-140? I would think that it cools the surrounding memory and chipset fairly well. Although, like you said, you could easily just mod something and cool it that way.

Yes, handle works well for carrying. Only issues I've had are a bit of side-to-side flex (side supports are just flat sheets), accidentally bumping graphics card since it sticks out so much (big oops, but no damage done) and not trusting the system to travel well - I have it in a padded box in my trunk so it doesn't fall over or have anything else jab it.

I'm leaning towards the modding right now, but I've considered that too. Dunno what I'll end up with.

i plan on using it for my full time case until i get enough bank for another pc. It seems to be an awesome lan case.

Does anyone know the exact dimensions for an aftermarket cooler (without taking off the handle)?

I went the easy way. I had a 60x10mm fan, plugged it into the AUX on the motherboard and just set it on the chipset. One edge is held up by the CPU heatsink. Solved 99% of my problems and the other 1% could have been because I was using a Razer mouse. :p

No gloves. It is anodized brushed aluminum, so no need for gloves since nothing is glossy.

Zap or others, how do/would you transport your case? I'm afraid it might fall over or get bumped.

Heh, blast from the past. I no longer have mine (pictures further up). Sold it to a LAN buddy a while back.

Yeah me too going to sell it, just unpack and put back in box. But love this case and decide go with big one to run sli :D
