So I was browsing the CompUSA website and I came across this monitor. It has 3D capability AND 120hz? That sounds crazy to me. I wouldnt expect a monitor to have both .

I havn't looked at monitors in a long time as I currently have a 32'' Bravia set, but the fact that this has 3D is intriguing and does capture my eye; though I have yet to see it in person. I personally wont be using it for PC 3D gaming, but perhaps using it for PS3's 3D gaming and movie capabilities. *If I were to buy it of course.*

How well does 3D actually work on monitors? Is it similar to TV's 3D and 120hz? .

Thoughts?

Thanks, One2The3

That's pretty standard. I thought 120hz was required for 3D...

You can't run PS3 3D through any released 3D PC Monitor. PC 3D monitors work in alternating frame mode and use dual link DVI. 3D TVs use side by side or interleaved modes to do 3D over HDMI. Sadly, they are not compatible.

Nvidia did announce that they will be supporting PC 3D output to Panasonic 3D plasmas, so you should eventually be able to do the reverse, but don't count on playing PS3 in 3D on any current 3D monitor, unless Nvidia and Sony work something out so that the PS3 outputs 720p120 or some other mode that these monitors support.

Oh I see. haha Well I was just curious. Thanks guys.

@ imyourzero haha I guess your right. I was just taken aback that its only been 2 or so years since I looked at computer monitors and now they already have 120hz AND 3D; like I said, its been awhile!

Its sort of a bummer that 3D PC monitors cant "substitute" for 3D TVs.

Thanks, One2The3

Right now, I don't think any of the companies that make 3D TVs (like LG, Samsung) have any incentive to make a cheap monitor that cuts into their 3D TV sales, but maybe Dell / HP / Asus etc. could jump in here and fill a void. If they made a 24-27" 3D LCD Monitor / TV, there's probably a good sized niche they could fill for people looking to get a taste of 3D before they drop 3-5K on a big screen 3D TV.

Well if they were able to "substitute" for TV panels they would have to be even higher than 120hz (3D tv requirements are a 240hz panel with HDMI 1.4) and really the amount of people watching 3D movies (all 2 of them currently on blu-ray) would never justify the increased cost.

240hz is not a requirement for 3D TVs.
