AMD x2 4400 Need Help

So i have a question

I have a AMD x2 4400 sitting here running on a abit Kn9. Im looking at the tempatures in speed fan and it says the cpu is running hot around 80C. The computer also is running slow when its running hot. This is on a few day old install.

I have a stock amd cooler on it and it barely feels warm. I have also reapplied the thermal paste.


Any ideas on what the problem could be? Do you think i should look into changing the board, cpu, or fan?

if its running hot and slow its because its downclocking trying to protect its self.. when you checked the heatsink when you remounted it did you see how it sat on the thermal grease.. was it spread evenly? also i would check the voltage that the boards automatically setting for the processor.. my bet is that its to high.. but i would also check to see if the heatsinks sitting on there flush especially if the heatsink isnt even warm..

heatsink is not sitting flush to the cpu. i'm not sure how to test this without getting burned. perhaps you can turn off the system, wait a while then touch the cpu. it should be very hot. anyway, remount the heatsink, and make sure it touches the cpu. if not you probably need a new heatsink.

I pulled off the heatsink and the thermal paste is evenly spread and looks like its making contact with the processor i guess ill see if i can find another heatsink to try

if thats the case then check the voltage and make sure the bios is setting it correctly.. you can probably find the voltage in the bios or try running cpu-z.. then try to look for a review some where that shows the stock voltage for the chip..

Checked the voltage and its set on automatic in bios and cpu-z says its at 1.35 volts which is within range for this model. Im at a total loss here I heated it up running everest to 80 C and then shut it down taking the cpu cooler off right away and touched the processor and it was barely hot i didnt think it would cool down that fast? Anyway i really dont know what to do next could the processor or board be bad?
