This is a warning to parents and children alike…two hours of playing games produces the same high you get from snorting a line of cocaine.

Young addicts are skipping meals, playing truant from school and are even stealing money from their parents to buy the latest games. And one expert today warned two hours of playing games produces the same high as taking a line of cocaine.

I just skipped a meal doing work, am I now an addict too? oh wait, work != game. Brilliant these guys.

Shit, I must have been really high when I put 4,000 hours into UT2k4 a few years ago.

Fuck I'm probably STILL high.

That game was like crack though. L4D is my current poison. I'm so screwed. Anyone have the number for Gameaholics Anonymous? Wait, no,, nevermind.....

Wow! That's the dumbest thing I've ever read. The lengths people go to trash gamers is unbelievable.

Also I like how the subtitle to the picture of a dude playing a PSP says

It took over my life: Jack, 15, became addicted to computer games and suffered as a result

Guys, people don't all feel this way, one 'counselor/therapist' (who may not even have qualifications) in the UK does not speak for the world and is hardly an expert in my opinion. Inflammatory word like "high" could be replaced with "fun" and it would have the same meaning for the kids playing but he didn't want to say cocaine was fun.

LOL, reminds me of when played GTA:VC for hours on end and then got behind the wheel of a car and had the shakes. Feels like a combination of excitement and adrenaline, like riding a roller-coaster, butt now that I'm older its no longer that exciting.

This just in:

playing sports for 2 hours gives the same high as snorting a line of cocaine
watching a funny movie for 2 hours gives the same high as snorting a line of cocaine
playing with your dog for 2 hours gives the same high as snorting a line of cocaine

you may even skip a meal doing so

This just in, brain produces dopamine which is what cocaine does! Congress has presented a bill which has overwhelming support in both houses to outlaw brains.

"All this time we were trying to stop the drug smugglers, and the problem was right here in our own heads," said Senator McCain (R, AZ).

Somehow I think the person who wrote the article was snorting crack while writing it.

I think most people who have something against video games just plain suck at them and try to bully other people into not playing them.

No it's not.

How many people could go for a month strait of every day cocain use then just stop with zero drawbacks? I do that with gaming all of the time, simply stop and have zero desire to play.

Lesse, $300-$600 every 5 or 6 years, plus $20 month (gamefly subscription) or $60 every few weeks...

A lot less expensive than the $10,000 or so for a half-kilo of coke per year?

yeah, I'll stick with gaming

I'm pretty sure they guy who wrote the article has no idea what snorting crack is like.

The problem isn't the games, the problem is the people. For example I have an addictiver personality, it is VERY easy for me to get so caught up in something that I could end up doing many of the things described in the article.

I've been "addicted" to many things over the years, and need to watch myself to insure it doesn't happen again, but then again I am also a fan of personal responsibilty which often seems to make me a minority. LOL!

One question I do have after reading the article, where the hell was the 15 year old's parents while he was gaming for 48 hours straight?

I think they say the same thing about sex.... Or eating greasy satisfying food. :D You know how those head shots really get me off.

man, cocaine must really suck cause 2 hours of gaming and I'm just bored and stiff (from sitting down)

Well then I guess cocaine isn't as addictive as advertised. I quit WoW 6 weeks ago and haven't been back, no serious withdrawal symptoms either. Maybe I should try cocaine for my next addiction.

I have tried every drug under the sun. I'm on my computer for about 5 hours a day since 1984.
I would say they are wrong or taking the wrong shit

or just plain full of shit, cause they have no idea what cocaine feels like.

have journalists completely thrown integrity out the window?
"i'm doing a research paper on crack, but we not going to use crack in the research."

ok..... soooooooo, how is this information genuine at all? pathetic.

I can definitely confirm the sports part. When I work out at the gym for 2 hours, I have an adrenaline high going on and I loathe to leave. I get out of the locker room after a shower and I have urges to go back into the gym again.

I agree that one can be addicted to video games, but I wouldn't compare it to cocaine. If you pull someone away from their computer and take them out on a camping outing without any devices or computer, one can easily forget about them and enjoy nature. Take a cocaine addict away from his drug and take him camping, you won't find him in his tent in the morning and your car will be gone.

cocaine is that boring?

I love gaming, but its gonna have to offer me more to drop down that kind of cash. :p

same boat with you.

So...if you're really focused on something...you're addicted to it and you will need treatment. If you can't focus on something, you get diagnosed with ADD and again, you will need treatment.

Always somebody trying to convince you that there's just something wrong with you, but they have the medicine or treatment that can cure you - for a price.

The funny thing is that I know people who will pass up on food for a day to get a new videogame and some drugs. That girl is such a mess *shrugs*

Here's the deal.. EVERYTHING that gives you at least a little satisfaction causes the same 'high". it is the brains reward system. it is to what extent you are willing to go to get that high that makes things dangerous.

this article is just plain full of shite.

You guys have no idea - when I played WoW and got my ZG tiger mount, I literally came inside my pants. Then I actually looted the item and equipped it - my nose began to tingle a little, before I knew it, I was on cloud 9.
