Play this game.

After ordering FF13 and Heavy rain in my last amazon order, while expecting FF13 to take my time. I can tell you, Heavy rain is the best game you will will play this generation. Not without it's faults. Moving around can be a pain and you might not have pressed x when you pressed x, but it doesn't matter. You don't move around much and the tension is never lost in a quick time event. It might sound shallow and it's really more of an interactive movie rather than a game. Still, it's the best game I've played this generation

I had really high expectations out of this game, and it turned out to be crap. They kept boasting about how good the story was, but at the end, you realize the game is filled with huge plot holes.

8/10 for the experience.
5/10 if you ask too many questions after the end.

have to agree with OP. some plot holes, sure, but i had a blast playing it.

Going into spoilers territory here, but what plot holes did you see deanx0r?

same here, i keep hearing about plot holes, but I dont recall anything that happened that made me scratch my head and say huh? Maybe I didnt pay close enough attention.

Anyone else get to the end and was like damn, they should make this into a live action movie?

Spoiler Alert (though most have beat it by now)

Enjoyed the game, but Ethan is a bit of an idiot, why does he continue to think he is the killer when someone is clearly watching him through a camera to see if he cuts off his finger before giving him the next clue? Does he think his alternate self has an origami killer secretary? Plus wouldn't he be able to check his finances to see if he's been spending money on all these things like an extra car and garage etc.

Because crazy people don't know they are crazy, and but he assumed the was crazy, leading him to believe he couldn't trust himself. Wait what? Bad and sloppy writing again, and that's a no no for a game that boasts itself as being the epitome of story telling.

Another odd factor that was never explained in either of my two passes would be Ethan randomly waking up on that one street with an origami figurine in his hand.
The only time it's really even mentioned it's simply glossed over.

Spoiler
I agree on some plot issues but I only recalled having a figure in Ethan's hand after one blackout, and that was when Shaun was taken. So I thought it possible the killer left it there. Not that far of a stretch. Also what would you be thinking if you kept blacking out not remembering what happened or how you got there and now your son is gone? It might've also been a moment of weakness in the interrogation room that he said it. He never said it any other time.

Also I'm a noob so how do I use the spoiler tags?

Cool, thanks for the thoughts and spoiler alerts, guys. I just got a copy in the FS forum and will be playing it this weekend :). Definitely seems like an odd game, but I've heard more good than bad on it so I decided to try it out since I found a good deal on it. About how long does it take to play through (I know it's made to replay constantly, but just want an estimate for my first play through)?

I think it took maybe 10 hours for me. At first I was checking every corner and doing everything, but that really serves almost no purpose with the exception of some of the Norman crime-scene areas. With the game you'd generally do the thing that makes most sense right away, which is refreshing.

While you can replay it several different ways, I'll warn you to play it the way you really would on the first pass. There's no way to skip dialogue or do anything to speed the game up, so replaying an area you've seen before can be pretty tedious.

Ethan thinks he is the killer for most of the game, even when talking to Madison.

Spoiler!

After Ethan cuts off his finger (while someone watches remotely), Madison saves him from the police. They go back to the hotel and Madison ask Ethan if he is the Origami Killer. If you choose "confide" Ethan explains the black outs and how his other self is the Origami Killer. Later on after Ethan does the next trial (kill someone) he's back at the hotel and depressed. Madison comes back to the hotel and says he isn't the Origami Killer and she can prove it. They do "stuff" to celebrate :p (j/k). Later Ethan gets arrested and says he doesn't know if he's the Origami Killer or that he might be the Origami Killer, but fails mention anything about the trials he is being put through and no one ask why he is toasty and missing a finger. I think the Police also fail to find the origami evidence after raiding the hotel.

Of course you can do things differently. Madison can fail to save Ethan after he cuts off his finger so they won't have the hotel scene.

Spoiler!

Don't clearly remember the conversation options I chose. But I definitely did not kill the guy I was supposed to.

Still, two possible instances where Ethan is claiming to be or confused on whether or not he could be the killer, aren't enough for me. He's too emotional unstable. It's not a big enough plot issue for me honestly.

Anyone else let Shelby die? I just couldn't see myself letting him live.

In the path I took through the game everything was pretty well explained. Ethan thought he was the killer until there was sufficient proof that he was not. For me this happened at some point after cutting his finger off, maybe even after the killing mission. I ended up not killing the drug dealer so, I don't know if that plays in.

It doesn't matter if you kill the drug dealer. You end up back at the hotel and Madison still tells you your not the killer. (Unless shes dead)

Its not so much a plot issue, Ethan and the police are is just kind of stupid or ignorant.

I'm not sure Ethan knew he wasn't the killer until the killer was standing in front of him, but I'll have to check that part out again.

As for Shelby I don't think its possible to save him with the FBI agent.

I think it's a little quick to call them stupid and ignorant without being in that position. I know you'd say you would think rationally, but emotion has a large affect on how we think.

I'm pretty sure you could save him. Remember, it's all about choice.

Even if you chose to save him, he dies because he just wants to kill you.

Ethan has serious mental problems and he's aware of it. I didn't think it was too far of a stretch for him to think he was the origami killer..

Also, when I played, I don't remember my Ethan character getting caught by the police. Two times were close, but he got away both times.

Press X to JASON! and ARI COMMENT got seriously fuckin annoying after an hour of playing.

Is it true the Taxidermist DLC is only 20 minutes long? It cost 5 fucking dollars!

I think hte taxidermist took me over 30 mins, it was free for me, but i would not have a problem paying 5 bucks if you had to, it was really good. I was all jittery the whole time I was playing it.

I loved the game so much but there was one plot hole that I really don't get.

Spoiler:

When you are controlling shelby in the typewriter store and he murders the store worker. You are controlling shelby that whole time, but after the game is over and it shows that scene, they just injected more time and show shelby killing the dude, but I was controlling shelby the whole time and that didn't happen!

That's the only thing that upset me about this game.

^ I see that as how Lauren interpreted it while she was busy with the ballerina music box.

I didn't read this thread as I haven't played the game yet. But I have watched a few Youtube videos of Heavy Rain and after finding out about this game I am exited as a bastard to start playing it (copy is in the mail). From what I have seen this game is one of the most awesome games I have ever seen. I love the fact that each main scenario has different outcomes and that even all 4 characters can die.

I'll write more once I start playing but I am trying to avoid any serious plot spoilers, so I wont read any more on here for now.
