Powercolor 5850 PCS+ edition (OC) 269.99 + free shipping at ZZF

I'm pretty sure this qualifies as a hot deal, isn't that about the price of the 5850 when it was first released?

Less, but thanks to Nvidia we have to settle for above MSRP prices which is ridiculous, who the hell sells at MSRP?

Oh sigh, the necessities of competition....

I was thinking of biting but I tend to keep my cards for 5+ years and only 2 year warranty + cheap components turned me away.

seeing as we probably wont see $200 5850's until xmas, this is tempting....

Considering how overpriced the 5850 is everywhere else this is a proportionally good deal.

The PCS+ was rated to be quieter and more efficient than the stock cooling.

I'd jump on this in a second.

Nice deal, I have to pay tax from ZZF :(. They're located 7 miles from me.

ZZF also charges tax for California, :)

the guy already posted that they will charge him tax

ZZF is offering their "assurance program" free on this videocard. One extra year after the manufacturer's warranty runs out (2 years). Product is replaced during that time

Looks like it has some kind of non-reference cooling solution. Hopefully quieter than the stock solution.

Most of the recent 5850 and half of the 5870's use non-reference designs. Take a look at availability at newegg. There aren't any 5850's with the stock cooler.

My xfx 5850 stock cooler seems quiet enough. I don't notice it over any other component.

I bit so I can crossfire this with my current 5850 and create a 5970!!!! Muhhuhuhuhahahah!?!?LKJ#$)(F)

This is the most reasonable price I've seen for 5850's since I got mine at launch ($259.99). Never thought I'd say it, but thank goodness for Fermi...It may be a failure, but at least it seems to be starting to effect ATI's prices a little bit.

How long is this card? My case is kind of tight even with my current 8800GT with accelero on it. Also will a corsair 550 have enought to power it?

Yea, out of stock as of this post.

To the 8800GT guy: I replaced my 8800GT w/ Accelero S1 with a reference 5850, I believe they are almost the same length, maybe the 5850 is 1" longer? Both were a tight fit in my case, I had to plug in the power connectors to the vid card before inserting it into the slot as they almost stick into my drive bay.

Forgive me, but I heard a lot of people say that about the stock 4890 cooler as well, and they were all totally wrong.

The noise level of the stock 5850 is considerably loud in my opinion. Of course I went from a whisper quiet 8800GT w/ accelero S1. The 5850 is by far the loudest component in my case. Over the last week I have gotten pretty used to it, but I was forced to leave the fan speed at CCC controlled speed/temp. I don't like how hot the card gets on full load (about 75C), but ramping the fan up manually over 35% makes it sound like a friggen hair dryer. I am really planning on buying the new liquid VGA cooler that CoolIT is releasing this summer :)

I dont understand why the price is soooo high for a card that is MSRP around $260

I want to buy a 5850 but not for $300

I hate ordering from ZZF because they've done this to me twice now. Says in stock then they backorder it.

yeah that is lame...

also i know MSRP is now above the $260 point of December....

it just sucks that MSRP has gone up!

Of all the aspects of enthusiast PC hardware, the "tolerable" level of sound is the most subjective. Some people will probably be hunky-dory with a pair of GTX 480s in SLI on the stock cooling while others basically can't use any reference cooler on a high end video card. I settled on a 4890 Toxic which is quiet enough that I only ever hear it at all during the most demanding games.

Finally got an email (after a week) from ZZF about my order. Backordered and they don't know when they'll get more. Called them up, and they were completely unhelpful and unwilling to do anything but cancel my order or let me wait.

i could be wrong here, but working in retail a mrsp comes out at the time of release and does not change. msrp is 259.00 for the 5850. supply and demand have made that mark pretty much unreachable.

The last time I heard (admittedly, it was at least 3 years ago), it is illegal to sell a product in New York State for a price greater then its M.S.R.P.

I don't know if that would apply if buy it in NY over the internet though...
