Gigabyte and Asustek are planning on increasing their USB 3.0 support for a wider range of products in the coming year. This move could have the effect of dropping prices due to the increased competition.

Kao pointed out that Gigabyte currently only offers USB 3.0 support in its Intel X58-, P55- and H57-based motherboards as well as AMD 790FX, 790X and 800-series products. On the other hand, Chen (Asustek) noted that the company will initially adopt USB 3.0 in its high-end and mid-range notebooks including the company's N, U and G-series, and the company currently has 10-15 models which already support USB 3.0. The company expects to start adopting USB 3.0 in its entry-level models in early 2011.

I wonder what will the market penetration rate be by early 2011. Personally, I'd wish to have all ports at USB 3.0 instead of being in a transition limbo. Widespread adoption is something that I really would like to see happen quickly.

there isnt any reason to have usb2 slots anymore right? i know cost is an issue now... but i just hope they dont milk the shit out of it by giving the age-old tech excuse "its new hardware, therefore it must carry a premium".

Until AMD and Intel start putting it in their chipsets, it probably will carry a premium. It requires extra chips on the board. Once Intel and AMD add it in, then the flood gates will open.

You realize it costs a lot of money to design these devices, right? They cost more when they're new because they have development costs to pay off. Why the hell would anyone ever design or build anything new if they couldn't recoup the costs?

Has anyone other than NEC made a chip yet? Because otherwise, it's just a max of two ports right now because of that. And built in support won't happen until SP1 for windows 7

So Fucking What.

Where is my USB 3.0 super duper 500MB/s 32G flash drive to use with it?

Solutions without a problem.

Some will say that 500MB/S 32GB flash drive? Fuckin' coming next year, so solution in advance to the emergent problem.
