Hey, anyone there? There is only a handful of topics here, has everyone switched to Intel processors or what? Whatever, i stick with good old green chips.

I was wondering if it would be feasable if i upgrade my Athlon II X4 620 to Phenom II X4 925. I think my cpu's oc abilities are very limited, tried to push it few times but it didn't do well. Maybe it's the mobo or memory but i don't think it has much juice in it anyway. It's also cacheless and no good for gaming for sure. This new Phenom's look good on cache-wise but i'm wondering if they would also be good on oc'ing side. There's not much reviews so far so i thought i can find some guys over here who got his hands on them.

Cheers from Turkey.

What you need to look for are the Athlon II vs Phenom II reviews. Long story short the upgrade isn't worth it from a price/performance perspective. The L3 cache doesn't make a world of difference.

I'm personally debating which one to get. My dual core Athlon II hit 3.5ghz from 2.8 with no voltage mods.

I like the 2.8ghz mark because you can just bump your FSB from 200 to an even 250 for a solid 3.5ghz per core.

If messing with the FSB isn't your thing then just upgrade to a black edition phenom and change the multiplier.

I have a 925. It is definitely faster than the Athlon II X4, but unless you absolutely are maxing out your CPU on a particular task, there is no point in upgrading. You might see a few more FPS in games, and shave a few seconds off rendering/encoding.

I have the X4 925. Its possible that my motherboard is preventing this, but I cannot up the voltage of my CPU at all. I have it maxed OC at 3.2GHz, and can't push it any farther without losing stability. I believe that if I could up the CPU's voltage it could go a little higher. This CPU is not a black edition, so you can't just up the multi on it like a black edition.

I don't think your upgrade would be worth it unless you could get that CPU very cheap, or sell your current CPU to finance the purchase.

Then i have to squeeze harder to get some extra juice out of it, it's gotta be the the memory settings holding me back. I'm gonna drop the memory speed all the way down and try it again. Maybe i get a 6 core cpu later if such thing exists.
