Last week we posted a link to the ten bad habits geeks have, this week it is the top ten endearing habits of a geeky spouse. While it is true we may be “tech support” for all of our friends and family, I’m not so sure you guys like it as much as this guy thinks.

Providing technical support to friends and family. We may grumble and sigh about doing it so often, and we may get frustrated when our in-laws don’t know the difference between WEP and WPA. But don’t be fooled: We actually enjoy this on some level. Everyone — geeks included — likes to be needed, and geeks also love few things more than to look like an expert.

According to this list I am not a geek at all. According to my wife I most definitely am.

I think I'll side with the wife on this one. I'm not a stupid geek.

nice.. I would say very accurate also... for me... aside from 6 and 7. :)

I agree with #2 somewhat.
It's a nice feeling but being inundated with 2 year old PCs (at best) full of malware is not a fun way to spend free time, especially when you're asked to save files (because of course none of these people do backups) or "clean it" instead of spending 2 hours tops on a fresh Windows install+update.

Like was pointed out with the last article. These side more with nerd than geek in what they think somebody should or shouldn't be doing.

Last time I was able to find a few things that I could just barely say would fit me to a very small degree.

This time about the same. I always have caffinated drinks in the house so 10.

5 also fits me a little. i have had older computers that I had replaced with new ones that were still good. but i am not out constantly buying new stuff for myself all the time.

I don't enjoy working on computers for family members so 2 is out. i do that crap enough when at work, i don't need all my family bugging me all the time to have me do that on my time off.

I only qualify for about half of those. There's no way you're getting a love letter or email from me in Klingon. That's what the French language was invented for! And my rear end is parked on the couch on Mon, Thurs, Sun through out the football season, Thurs-Sun for WRC during the winter, and any MLB playoff game. I don't do books, don't drink a lot of caffiene, and don't do tech support for free for anyone outside my immediate family (Occasional gorgeous blonde/brunette exception). With most people, once you touch the problem, it's yours forever. I tell em to call Data Doctors.

I have to agree about the cooking thing. My wife does most of the cooking, but I'm the one who tackles new or complex recipes.

That was pretty spot on for me:
9: I once left a letter for her covered in fake blood that was delivered by a zombie messenger who had a snack on the way to her house. Screw French....laughter is the best aphrodisiac.
7: The gym I fight with nicknamed me Fraggle Rock.
3: My mission this morning was to hunt down a missing toothbrush
10 is the only one that doesn't fit the bill.

1, 2 (ugh, no.. I keep my skills secret just so people don't bother me), 6 to some extent (limited to only things that contain sugar).

I don't consider myself a geek.. at least the evidence supports that somewhat.

I'm always more than glad to help any of my friends or relatives with their computer issues, knowing that I've prevented them from being ripoff by some of the computer retail stores here. Its not just how much they charge, but the service they provide are crap at best, some to the point of being dishonest.

But of course no matter what the circumstances are, I'll never woo a girl with a heart-shaped LED board

yeah these are pretty close....though again more nerd than geek.

they neglect to mention the inventions geeks make to make the house work better without buying the same thing from a store...or alternately are unavailable at a store.

Depends on the friend/family-member LOL

You know, after I got married, the hot friend of a friend thing became pointless. But I do remember the horny housewives when I used to install broadband service for Cox Cable.

I would rather spend time with my wife and kids than fix other peoples shit.

This is possibly the worst list ever. Like another post said my wife considers me a geek but according to that list I'm not. I like sports, I don't have a lot of hand me down gadgets, I HATE fixing other peoples computers, etc.

i think you meant 10 not 6. unless you consider baking shows a sport and is what you mean by containing sugar.

Which actually begs the question of are you really a geek or do you just get listed as one?

I'm with AVT on this one. I don't really consider myself a geek. I know about computers, I can work with them and keep up on various new technology. But I am not overly focus on it. There is a clear line between geek and nerd. however i also feel that there is a line between knowledgable / insterested to a certain degree in a field and geek.
