Why would someone choose 720 via hdmi to a tv that has a native resolution of 768 instead of just feeding it 768 via vga, if they had both options to choose from?

... Or you can just send it 1360x768 over HDMI too. I don't see the point when you can do both over either but HDMI is going to give you the best results.

oook...

Like CE said HDMI gives you the same range of resolutions. HDMI is not locked into the standard resolutions as it is essentially a modified DVI cable...

I thought hdmi was only for "tv" resolutions, such as 720 and 1080. Do I use the hdmi port or the hdmi/dvi port on the samsung 32b360?
Thanks!

It's just a cable. As long as you don't try to send more than it can handle it just moves it from port A to port B.

it is essentially a modified DVI cable...

i second that. HDMI will give you all the resolutions.

my monitor only has an HDMI input (Westinghouse L2410nm) and i use a DVI to HDMI cable, and doesnt appear to have any loss in picture quality.

Yup, HDMI can give you the 768 resolutions. This usually only works coming from computers. Most DVD players & blu-ray players only use the standard 720/1080 resolutions via HDMI or component.
