Post your impressions of the SINGLE PLAYER campaign only, it'd be nice if you guys supplied some pros and cons, and likes and dislikes.

So far here's mine

Guys, I"m loving the single player, I'm on the 4th level now, Dionysus Park, it's a fucking BLAST, the level design seems more crisp than the first game, but it also seems a little bigger too, but it's hard to get lost because they always point you in the right direction which I like.

Also the story is fucking GREAT, so far, i think this might top the original in terms of story, i think the pacing of action is good, and the aiming is much better than the first game, I have no problems aiming in this game, whereas in the first game, it felt like aiming was a tad more difficult. The only gun that's difficult to aim is the spear gun which has a reticule the same size as the pistol in the original Bioshock, but that's balanced by the fact you can zoom in. The Plasmids are mostly the same, but they allow you to use a lot more gene tonics.

The Big Daddy and Big Sister fights are fun, so are the "boss fights" in the game, where you're basically fighting more powerful Splicers who happen to be storyline characters. You can make choices in this game and it will affect the story and ending i'd imagine.

Be good to the little sisters and they will reward you, harvest them, I have no idea what happens since I haven't chosen that path.

I like the overall atmosphere, this game, I feel was done right, single player wise, I have yet to play the multiplayer, I'm gonna pass on multiplayer untill the single player is beaten.

Also, the key point here is, the addition of allowing you to use a weapon and plasmid at the same time is a HUGE improvement. You guys all know it is, I remember in the original hating how I had to switch back and forth, it felt like it interrupted the action a little.

I think the game has the perfect blend of action and story, and the pace of it is the strong suit of the game, there seems to be just the right amount of everything, ammo, enemies, boss fights, story sequences, tidbits. and whatnot. It's very very fluid.

I can't really think of any serious cons, I do find it a little strange how you have to find a certain corpse to harvest Adam from, but I wonder if that will be explained somewhere in the story.

I think it is a pretty engaging single player experience. It is very faithful to the feeling and story of the original. If anything, Rapture feels even more beaten down and abused, and ready to fall apart any second.

Graphically, it is also faithful to the original. It uses the same engine, albeit modified a bit. It also appears to use many of the same assets, but with a lot of new things to spice the mix up.

i like it so far, not that far in to it though. glad someone else started another thread on this. the other one has just turned into a flame war

Yeah that's why I made this thread, it seemed to degenerate into pointless bickering, I'd rather hear other's impressions of the single player game.

I'm stopping now playing since I have to be up in 7 and a half hours to go to work in the morning, but best be assured I'm gonna beat this game. With a weekend off and Monday off for the Presidents Day federal holiday, i'm gonna crush this game in the grinder.

What do you guys think of the voice acting? I don't think it's better or lesser than the original, it seems like it was mostly the same so far.

Also do you guys feel like the story is explaining enough to bridge the story of B2 with B1?

i haven't played enough of it to know much about the story. i just got the chain gun and ran into my first upgrade machine and then tried some multiplayer. i don't know what but this games seems to run better on my alienware laptop too than bioshock 1 did. so far im really loving it and even more stoked that i got in on a cheap 4 pack buy here on the forum

it's well worth it, once you start playiing you won't want to stop

The attention to detail is nice. It's fun.

The best part so far is (dont worry it isnt a spoiler) when i went into the bathroom and picked up a item in the corner when i heard the toilet flush. I go over to it and shoot my drill into it before seeing anybody and notice no one is there. I turn around and a splicer ambushes me in the stall. I lol'ed

hell yes, i'm at the 5th level of the game now, Fontaine Futuristics, the story is great. I'm wondering how my choices will play out in the ending. I've chosen to Rescue all the Little Sisters and to spare the lives of the storyline characters when I'm given the chance to spare or kill them.

Can't wait to see the ending!

The game is just as engaging as the first, the story and gameplay mechanics are very close to the original and are polished up. Sadly though just like it's predecessor the game feels like a console port on the PC. The mouse acceleration issues are back and hopefully will get fixed quickly and the FOV could use some work too, it almost feels like Borderlands FOV.

First of all, you must know that the original Bioshock is one of my favorite games of all time. What do I think of the sequel? Well, I've only played a couple hours into into it but so far it seems to have captured the same ambiance and spirit which made the original so great.

Performance seems really solid. Not sure if the crossfire on my 4870X2 is working but the games runs fairly consistently at 60fps at 2560X1600. Surprised to be honest but then again I suppose if it's just a tweaked old engine then I assume we should expect solid performance?

Graphics to me actually look better than the original. With the original I was a little bothered when I couldn't force AA. So far I haven't tried forcing AA but I haven't really noticed any jagginess. I know I'm playing at a high rez but even at 2560X1600 on the original I could tell when AA was off. So far the game looks very solid.

Really looking forward to delving further into it.

I just started playing it...I was hoping that things would look a bit better...but I guess since the 1st one looked so good, I was hoping to be blown away

anybody got a strat for fighting the big sister? i can beat her, but i use up a lot of stuff. i have electro, tele, fire, rivet gun, machine gun. upgraded drill and gun.

I've not played as far as some here but I'm really liking this. The game is pretty much what I wanted but I wouldn't have minded some game engine upgrades. My biggest graphical gripe is that you don't reflect, so when I look into water all I see is the ceiling.

The story manages to be interesting. I really dislike "that woman" but unlike Andrew she has no redeeming qualities what so ever - she's just plain evil and that's that. The game might yet surprise me though, the original did after all.

I think they've done a good job with the music. They have the old tunes, but they've added more and they fit in perfectly. There was one annoying part where "scary music" played all the time but that might have been a bug.

The boss fights are fun but I've died several times thanks to the awkward controller mappings. I finally changed them but it takes a little time to get used to normal controls again so it's best to do first thing.

The hacking mini-game is an improvement over the old puzzle, even if I end up setting off alarms with alarming regularity. I've found that the smartest thing to do when that happens is simply to run, run and run.

All in all, the game has some rough edges but overall I'm happy.

When I fight the big sisters I light them on fire and then fire on them. Can't be sure but it seems to help bring down their health quickly. They got adam so remember to loot them when they finally go down.

Wabe, do you seriously have to threadcrap on every single one of these bioshock threads? We get the point, you aren't happy with the controls. Complain on the 2K forums. 80 mph, more like you easily get motion sickness.. the speed in the game is fine, always has been.

I actually think the walking speed is way too slow.

But what's keeping me from playing the game at the moment is the FoV. This is seriously the only game that gives me a headache while playing it, so hopefully that patch comes out soon.

There's a walking speed++ tonic. Not sure how much difference it makes since I've had it equipped all the time.

Is the speed faster or slower or the same as the running speeding in the first game - because the first game makes me sick to my stomach having to play at that speed? I might buy this if the speed is significantly slower.

Well, I've been playing for 6 hours according to steam and have not seen the end yet. For comparison I played through HL2 episode one twice in that much time.

Yeah I figured...Was a guy from speeddemosarchive so I'm sure he was blasting through to see if speedrunning was doable

I like the story but I am bored to tears other wise. Searching for bodies with the little sister is impossible as I do not see said glow that the game tells me is around the bodies. I've been searching for a long time in the fontain fun land for the second one.

This games, like some of the others, does make me sick while playing.

I don't have this game, but I am really glad that changed this. I thought it was absolutely retarted that you couldn't use a plasmid and a gun at the same time.... many games let you do so (left mouse - attack; right mouse - use magic). Also glad to hear the aiming got better. I got COD3 while I was halfway done with (the original) Bioshock and the aiming seemed so off in Bioshock, I was totally frustrated.

It is good to see there are impovements from the first game.

Thanks Mark. Looking forward to picking this up again shortly, since it looks like I'm snowed in for a 3rd day. FoV, I dont' feel like it's that big of a problem, or at least I don't notice it to the extent to where I'd say something about it.

For the guy who was wanting help fighting the Big Sisters, I use Telekinesis, you can throw that debris she's throwing at you right back at her, you can also throw her fire beams right back at her too, don't underestimate Telekinesis. In the last level I was in, Dionysus Park, I managed to get the Big Sister up against the wall and I basically spammed Telekinesis and drilled her to death, she couldn't move cause I had her pinned against the wall. I have the freezing drill gene tonic, which I really like.

Wabe please don't post anymore in this thread unless you're gonna post something useful, I've reported you for threadcrapping, I think all of us here at the H would appreciate it if you would stop crapping in every single thread and just let us discuss the damn game instead of trying to throw a pity party for you.

They sure like to step on the same shovel twice....

yea, they didn't learn this the first time?

Also, does anyone else feel the splicers to a TON a damage all the time? I swear I'm getting pegged like 3 or 4 times and I'm dead.

They are definitely tougher this time around.

What do you guys think of the Brute? He seems to be very very tough, sometimes tougher than the Big Daddies, but at least at first, I found a way to kill them more easily, you know how he picks up stuff and throws it at you like the Tank from L4D? You CAN use Telekinesis to throw it back at him, or you can simply fall back around a corner, he WILL come for you, you can choose to set traps, like Trap rivets, sentry guns, or you can use proximity mines, and blow him up, or if you manage to make him follow you into a narrow hallway, well it's open season son.

the mini-sentry and my fully upgraded shotgun/Electro Bolt 2 are what I use when I'm guarding my little sister when she's harvesting Adam.

The game really rewards you if you're willing to plan ahead it feels very rewarding to see all your traps be sprung and watch em just hit the floor.

Sorry, wasn't trying to be funny/rude or anything, I'm just saying they're not exactly know for their speedy updates, I have no idea why the first patch took a whole year but there we go... :(

Perhaps, but it is not the same development team that created the first game.

I think even without Ken Levine, they made a game that's worthy of the original, don't you? I think they did some things better than they did in the original, mostly the action seems a lot better, and action to story ratio pacing seems MUCH better here. The level design has more variation than the first game. The weapons remain mostly the same but there are a few new ones, and I like them so far. It remains to be seen what the twist to this game's story is. However I won't discuss it even after I beat the game today, I'll wait till everyone's beaten it to say anything, I'm not a spoiler.

What about the fun factor, how's that for you guys?

I'll say that Fontaine Futuristics is one HUGE level, damn! Those Houdini Splicers are annoying i hate em

I just use the freeze spell + whatever weapon... can take out big sisters, big daddies, brutes, etc.

With melee upgrades the drill does insane damage... +freeze effect from a blue vial.

Thanks for the input!

I will definitely be getting this but I will be waiting a month and get it for half price lol if Steam pricing trends keep going the same way lol...

if you pay full price you won't be disappointed

this game is well worth your money, all DRM bullshit aside

I heard the multi was good, but it's primarily a single player game for me

Damn I'm near the end, this game is really good, I think i've put 6-8 hours in it, I'm not precisely sure. I think by the time I finish i'll have put in 9 or 10 hours into it. The single player isn't long by any means but it's not short either, and it's a pretty satisfying experience.

now to do the last push to finish it.
