I know the article says that Israeli security shot the computer because they thought it was a security risk but I happen to know it is because it was a Mac.

"do not to be alarmed by gunshots because the Israeli security needs to blow up suspicious passanger luggage."
Should you be alarmed that there is a suspicious passanger?
I wonder how often this happens that they actually have a protocol of making an annoucement about when they do this type of stuff.
Fortunately for all of her data, they missed the hard drive. Now she's trying to figure out how to get the Israeli government to reimburse her for her swiss cheese laptop.
The retarded part of it is that they shot it because of suspicion that she would be trafficking information. Well they missed the hard drive, so it was all for naught. What idiots. Who is allowing them to reproduce over there?
Nothing about what they did makes much sense, it is as if two half wits decided to check if it was a bomb by shooting it.
Toward the beginning of the search an officer began clicking through the photos on my camera. She froze on a picture of graffiti, which read “Fuck” scrawled next to the Jewish star of David. “Why do you have this picture?” She asked me rather aggressively. “Because I was disturbed by it too,” I answered. She didn’t press the subject but continued clicking…presumably looking at pictures from a photo exhibit about Israel’s January attack of Gaza.
Though I usually delete all my pictures when uploading, unluckily I had clicked save rather than delete when uploading this set and never got around to manually deleting on my camera. Whoops…
Among other suspicious item; an Arabic phrasebook, a journal entry that mentioned a Palestinian(yes, they even flipped through my journal), stamps from Syria, Qatar and the UAE, Palestinians in Palestine guidebook, and a map a friend had drawn with a main street in Jerusalem, the central bus station and my intended hostel. “Who are you meeting there?” They asked me.
Anyway I am in Jerusalem. Years of my life and my RLAP work is not destroyed. *sigh*. Insha’allah I will like Israel better tomorrow…
I love when people call others stupid because they're too stupid to read the article.
You don't shoot laptops to destroy the data. You shoot suspicious packages to either trigger or disable harmful contents.

LOL, total security fail. They totally missed the most sensitive part and negated any reason of shooting it in the first place. That's amazingly retarded.
*Some joke about there being an app for that*
I don't think it's routine to shoot suspected explosives with gunfire. Certainly not in the airport or close enough to the airport that you have to make the announcement "Hey everybody you'll be hearing gunfire soon". You put it in a special container, and then you blow it up with a real explosive. Shooting randomly at it is something you don't do to something you think might explode.

Who knows what they were thinking when they shoot her screen multiple times. Just guessing but maybe it went like this - "Hey I got this new weapon I haven't gotten to try yet, we need to find something to shoot." "Oh hey, what about this laptop?"
They were either dumb enough to to test out if a laptop was a bomb for shooting at it, most likely in the same area where the people are anyway or they were dumb enough to shoot at the laptop for fear of trafficking information. So Nemesis, try keep your finger off the flame trigger for once. smh...
That's nice. But you're still wrong. I'm pretty sure that they did some research before they built anti-bomb robots with shotguns that shoot suspicious packages.
Israel, center of Facism in the 21st century. Better not have pictures of something that some psychotically-indoctrinated 19 year old with a gun finds offensive! And if it was a bomb and you wanted it to go off why the hell would you shoot it in the middle of the airport? We all know that's a bunch of utter bullshit.
Putting a whole bunch of holes in suspicious packages has been standard practice for a long time.
jordansgladstone said:As a former Israeli Combat Engineer with advanced training in multiple kinds of explosives I can assure you that shooting an explosive device is generally not the best choice for disarming or disabling a bomb. The use of firearms on small explosives can be used as a last resort, not because of fear of setting of the explosive, but because you are not guaranteed to disarm it. This women is actually lucky they moved her unattended bag away from the passenger checkpoint, shot to disable the suspected device, then cautiously approached the bag for confirmation. At least the hard-drive survived.
I'm unsure of what caused the breach from standard operating guidelines, which would have been evacuating the general area to a minimum safe distance ( a minimum of 75m or more) and placing an appropriate amount of C4 to disable and/or destroy the intended target.
You need to read the article. They did it very close to the airport's populated areas, and they didn't shoot it with a robot equipped with a shotgun. You can clearly see in the picture (if you don't even read the article) that it is NOT a shotgun blast that hit that laptop.
I went inside to check on my bag. I had left it unattended, where they instructed. It was still there so I went back outside.
You also need to read the comments over there.
First comment somebody left on the linked article:
Am I the only one who suspects she brought a lot of this on herself? Not that I wouldn't shoot a mac laptop in a heartbeat, but I'm guessing she was doing a little more than silently being accosted by some evil IDF types.
Kind of like protesters who complain about unprovoked brutality from police, I'm taking her story with a big grain of salt.

Well her story says it all, she looked like a terrorist. In Israel they have to be paranoid because they are in fact surrounded by terrorists.
