I know the article says that Israeli security shot the computer because they thought it was a security risk but I happen to know it is because it was a Mac. ;)

Pure awesomeness. That should be a requirement for all Apple products, to be shot...haha :D

"do not to be alarmed by gunshots because the Israeli security needs to blow up suspicious passanger luggage."

Should you be alarmed that there is a suspicious passanger?

I wonder how often this happens that they actually have a protocol of making an annoucement about when they do this type of stuff.

In any other country there would be something to worry about, but in Israel it's common and the people are used to it.

The retarded part of it is that they shot it because of suspicion that she would be trafficking information. Well they missed the hard drive, so it was all for naught. What idiots. Who is allowing them to reproduce over there?

Nothing about what they did makes much sense, it is as if two half wits decided to check if it was a bomb by shooting it.

Blowing things up does not involve bullets. I think they need to do it again and this time put it on youtube.

I guess I won't be taking a computer over there

on a side note didn't they spell "passenger" wrong?

Fortunately for all of her data, they missed the hard drive. Now she's trying to figure out how to get the Israeli government to reimburse her for her swiss cheese laptop.

LOL, total security fail. They totally missed the most sensitive part and negated any reason of shooting it in the first place. That's amazingly retarded.

I love when people call others stupid because they're too stupid to read the article.

You don't shoot laptops to destroy the data. You shoot suspicious packages to either trigger or disable harmful contents.

You realize they have robots specifically designed for this, right? Do you want to go pick up a package that might explode?

Toward the beginning of the search an officer began clicking through the photos on my camera. She froze on a picture of graffiti, which read “Fuck” scrawled next to the Jewish star of David. “Why do you have this picture?” She asked me rather aggressively. “Because I was disturbed by it too,” I answered. She didn’t press the subject but continued clicking…presumably looking at pictures from a photo exhibit about Israel’s January attack of Gaza.

Though I usually delete all my pictures when uploading, unluckily I had clicked save rather than delete when uploading this set and never got around to manually deleting on my camera. Whoops…

Among other suspicious item; an Arabic phrasebook, a journal entry that mentioned a Palestinian(yes, they even flipped through my journal), stamps from Syria, Qatar and the UAE, Palestinians in Palestine guidebook, and a map a friend had drawn with a main street in Jerusalem, the central bus station and my intended hostel. “Who are you meeting there?” They asked me.

Anyway I am in Jerusalem. Years of my life and my RLAP work is not destroyed. *sigh*. Insha’allah I will like Israel better tomorrow…

i guess the Israeli can't face the slaughter they are doing daily in a jpeg format, they prefer ".bmp"

I don't think it's routine to shoot suspected explosives with gunfire. Certainly not in the airport or close enough to the airport that you have to make the announcement "Hey everybody you'll be hearing gunfire soon". You put it in a special container, and then you blow it up with a real explosive. Shooting randomly at it is something you don't do to something you think might explode.

Who knows what they were thinking when they shoot her screen multiple times. Just guessing but maybe it went like this - "Hey I got this new weapon I haven't gotten to try yet, we need to find something to shoot." "Oh hey, what about this laptop?"

They were either dumb enough to to test out if a laptop was a bomb for shooting at it, most likely in the same area where the people are anyway or they were dumb enough to shoot at the laptop for fear of trafficking information. So Nemesis, try keep your finger off the flame trigger for once. smh...

Maybe it was just something that was lost in translation when she asked a question about screenshots?

Israel, center of Facism in the 21st century. Better not have pictures of something that some psychotically-indoctrinated 19 year old with a gun finds offensive! And if it was a bomb and you wanted it to go off why the hell would you shoot it in the middle of the airport? We all know that's a bunch of utter bullshit.

That's nice. But you're still wrong. I'm pretty sure that they did some research before they built anti-bomb robots with shotguns that shoot suspicious packages.

Better yet Google "bomb robot" and tell me what % of them don't have a gun.

Putting a whole bunch of holes in suspicious packages has been standard practice for a long time.

So in your mind they went over there, took out the laptop, opened it up, then shot the screen a bunch of times?

You are so stunningly slow it is amazing.

Do you honestly think that Israel established procedures for this stuff without properly research? Seriously. Do you REALLY think the world's leading anti-terror organizations know less then you? Get over yourself, you're obviously not that bright.

You need to read the article. They did it very close to the airport's populated areas, and they didn't shoot it with a robot equipped with a shotgun. You can clearly see in the picture (if you don't even read the article) that it is NOT a shotgun blast that hit that laptop.

Seconded and agreed.

You also need to read the comments over there.

As a former Israeli Combat Engineer with advanced training in multiple kinds of explosives I can assure you that shooting an explosive device is generally not the best choice for disarming or disabling a bomb. The use of firearms on small explosives can be used as a last resort, not because of fear of setting of the explosive, but because you are not guaranteed to disarm it. This women is actually lucky they moved her unattended bag away from the passenger checkpoint, shot to disable the suspected device, then cautiously approached the bag for confirmation. At least the hard-drive survived.

I'm unsure of what caused the breach from standard operating guidelines, which would have been evacuating the general area to a minimum safe distance ( a minimum of 75m or more) and placing an appropriate amount of C4 to disable and/or destroy the intended target.

It isn't? I see nothing in that picture that would tell you that. There's no reason that those 3 holes couldn't have been caused by shot.

I went inside to check on my bag. I had left it unattended, where they instructed. It was still there so I went back outside.

The article clearly states that they had her place her bag somewhere and leave. Somehow I'm thinking that maybe (just maybe) they might have thought this one through. ... Nah, they just ran in there and started wildly shooting into the crowd, right?

I'm sure the proper procedure on the field is to place explosives.
I promise you it's not standard procedure to place bombs in their own airports to disable what may be a bomb.

Am I the only one who suspects she brought a lot of this on herself? Not that I wouldn't shoot a mac laptop in a heartbeat, but I'm guessing she was doing a little more than silently being accosted by some evil IDF types.

Kind of like protesters who complain about unprovoked brutality from police, I'm taking her story with a big grain of salt.

Well her story says it all, she looked like a terrorist. In Israel they have to be paranoid because they are in fact surrounded by terrorists.

hmmm

I had my bag shot at a few times after leaving it unattended.
When it happens they usually get everyone to a safe distance and shoot it.
While the bullets the robot shoots are small, they explode on contact.

This story sounds either exaggerated or telling just part of what really happened.
She probably forgot it there and came back after they shot her laptop.

ARF!!! Anyone else notice the page title on your Browser Tab when clicking on the [H] image of this shot laptop? Of course.... it is the perfect "Screenshots".

I wonder if they shot it with Depleted Urianium rounds like the ones they shoot out of the tanks at the rock throwing palestinian terrorists.

I know Israel faces enormous security problems, but there's a fine line between caution and paranoia, and when you cross it you end up doing foolish things like this that just turns world opinion against you.

They popped 3 shots and missed the hard drive? How the fuck does that even happen?

Well her story says it all, she looked like a terrorist. In Israel they have to be paranoid because they are in fact surrounded by terrorists.

Yes, on both sides of the fence.
Having been over there, you'll find decent people (who are sick of this idiocy) on either side of the conflict; as well as bunch of extremists (both religious and political) and scared kids overreacting to extraordinary stress--sound familiar?

Not only surrounded, but infiltrated by terrorists. Israels prime minister is a terrorist, as he gleefully celebrated the anniversary of the King David Hotel bombing, along-side his Irgun friends.

i was thinking the same thing them holes are big did they get out an Big sniper gun out (would an ak47 make them size of holes) or something els bigger
