Here’s a town that only exists on Google maps. No one seems to know why it is there but I know. When you are calling in sick to take care of your great aunt...that’s right…she lives in Argleton. When the wife wants to know where you and the guys went this weekend? Argleton, of course. Ta-da!

The town appears on Google Maps in the middle of fields close to the M58 motorway, just south of Ormskirk. Its 'presence' means that online businesses that use data from the software have detected it and automatically treated it as a real town in the L39 postcode area.

lol.. yeah, that's the ticket.. I was in Argleton... with Steve! ;)

There primary exports includes "legal purposes" and things pertaining to "logistics".

Or insert your favorite joke about Hogwarts or Kings Cross and 9 3/4

Don't be fooled, this is all one giant conspiracy. There definitely was a town there but it was wiped out by the government and now they are covering the whole affair up. We can't let them get away with this. We must stand strong here at [H] and expose the truth

Imagine a Twilight Zone ep: "This is a story that was never told, set in a town that never existed..."

This would be far more interesting if it had street view... or maybe it used to before "they" removed it.

I remember one time I was ridding w/ my friend in his tracter/trailor and we were looking for a town shown on the motor carriers atlas and only thing there was a single house. the actual town was 200 miles to the south and because of the maps error he was late with his delivery and his boss was pissed. When we showed his boss the map he finally cooled down.

P.S. Never back up a fully loaded trailer onto someone asphault driveway, its not pretty!

Everyone copies stuff from Google

They had a non existent town called Alluvia in Surrey, BC. Right on top of my old neighbourhood. Now if you type it in Google you get all kinds of travel stuff with that name. Does not exist.

Isn't that something cartographers have been doing for centuries though? Putting in fake streets or towns so they can tell who's copied from them without permission.

Probably some provider who's out right wrong. There's a street that's on Google's map close to me that does not exist, and if it did hasn't for probably 20+ years (it's now a megachurch's parking lot) only Bing and Yahoo exclude it. Google and Waze show that it exists however.
