Maybe everyone else already knows this but me, but I figured I'd post it anyway for those of you who had their heads under the rock with me. The [H]ardOCP Ratpadz are currently ringing up $5 less than their advertised price: So instead of the advertised $24.99 for the Ratpadz XT you can get it for $19.99 and USPS Priority Mail shipping is still FREE.

The Ratpadz GS is also ringing up $5 less, making it an amazing $9.99 with FREE USPS Priority Mail shipping. I say go for the XT though, it's WELL worth it.

Thank you for your order at Ratpadz.com.

Thanks for the deal, Kyle! :D

Ya, that's the free shipping, the $5 was for shipping :D using mine right now, it's pretty big, and with my G11 desk space is limited :p

How good are these? I'm just using an average mouse pad are these really that much better to be worth buying?

Doh, don't I feel like a dumbass now. I was so happy that it was only $20 that I didn't read the fine print (ala "Shipping included"). Oh well still a killer deal!

How long does the GS last for occasional gamers?

Occasional gamers? I'd give it 2 - 3 years depending on how heavy handed you are.

The XT is so much better and worth the extra ten bucks if you can swing it. :)

Tempted to pick one up, could use a good mouse pad. been using an autoshow fee-be for the last 3 or so years lol

whats the difference between the GS and the XT?

The GS is a lightweight molded plastic piece with a texture stamped onto the top part of the pad. This texture will wear down over a certain amount of time and then your mouse won't glide as smoothly on the GS as it once did. The GS will last 2 or 3 years of occasional gaming, or about 1 year if you're a heavy gamer.

The XT may look similar but it is a completely different beast. The texture is obtained differently than the GS (it's much much more durable), and the mousepad is CNC milled from a solid sheet of resin-like material. The XT is nearly indestructible and is solid and heavy and tends to stay where you put it. The XT really is a lot better than the GS IMO, and if you're considering buying a Ratpadz I would encourage you to go straight for the XT.

I picked one up. I've been wanting to get one for a while but didn't bother until just now.
It's strange that that $5 difference put me over the edge.

Edit: (I've been using a GS for years, it's been wearing down on me and was looking for an excuse to finally move up)

Heh, I bought one last night and thought the $5 reduced price was the manifestation of the free shipping. Sweet. 20% off of the GS, 33% off of the XT. Very hot! Even more reduction with the shipping.

I got to say, I used really crappy mouse pads before I switched to the xt and boy was there a BIG difference. I was surprised about how smooth my weary G7 slid over the surface and how durable it is. Thing is its not a comfortable as it could be. Overall these mouse pads kick a**!!!

Can I make a bulletproof vest out of it :p

Yes

:D

I agree with Blue Falcon (who sounds like a RatPadz sales rep :p), these are incredible mousepads. I've had my XT for almost a year and it's the best purchase I've made in a while!

EDIT: Gah, I just realized that the article linked to from the news is a dead link. Basically they shot the pad with a shotgun (from 20ft I believe) and it held up pretty damn well.

whats the difference between the GS and the XT?

I'll add that I find that the XT is better, even for normal office work.....just seemed smoother (though I don't understand why it would be).

The other thing I found is that the GS tended to cause dust to gather on the mouse feet. Strangely, this only happened at work. When i swapped my XT with my GS the problem was solved at work and I got no dust at home (and I can promise you this desk is much messier and dustier than the one at work..

In the end, I gave my dad my GS and bought myself a second XT.

Obviously I think it's worth the money (esp with free shipping) and if you don't do much gaming, then congratulations on the purchase of your last mouse pad ;)

Is this worth 20$? I really like my memory foam mouse pad. I don't know if it's worth it!!!

LOL, well I've just been around for a long time.... since around 1999 although my [H]ardForum account says otherwise. (long story there) I was around before Kyle debuted the ORIGINAL Ratpadz. The original Ratpadz are very much like what we know as the XT now, though the shape was slightly different and they were printed with an awesome [H]ard|OCP logo.

The toughest thing is to explain the difference between the XT and GS. The XT looks so similar but it's really quite different than the GS in that the texture is actually 'naturally' a part of the XT versus the GS where the texture is just sort of 'stamped'. It's almost impossible to wear down the texture on the XT like you can on the GS, and therefore the XT costs more. That's why you'll always see me encourage people to go straight for the XT, especially if they are more than an occasional gamer. :)

There are no frilly foo-foo memory foam gizmos on the Ratpadz.... if you're looking to be pampered I suggest you go to your nearest Target and buy a memory foam mousepad with a pink teacup poodle embossed on it. :D With that being said I've never had comfort issues with any of the Ratpadz I've owned, be it the original, GS, or XT. :)

I've had a GS for several years (and many very very smooth spots now), and I had a printed XT long ago (print degraded the performance unfortunately)...and I will never go back to any other mousing surface.

Just picked up a new XT. Thanks for the free shipping Kyle :D

Nice... been meaning to pick up another one to replace my current RatPadz. My current one is like 10 years old at this point. Great value for the money. $20 shipped. Thanks! :D

Thanks for the support!

I never liked printing on the damn things to begin with. Putting something over the surface we engineered, just was not a good idea, but we wanted branding at the time. I am over that, and would rather just have a great product. And the printing was a substantial cost of the pad as well.

How long does the GS last for occasional gamers?

let's see ... I've played WOW for 2 years now ... 5 hours a day on weekdays ...and god knows how long on week end ... and I bought my GS 3.5 years ago ... still rocking ...

Oh and be careful with this thing ... you can damage drywall if you hurl this in frustration.

edit ... wow ... I've been browsing these forums for 7.2 years? time moves so fast ...

nice mousepad, just make sure you can deal with the size of it.

I could not stand the size with my MX518 and lower than usual sensitivity settings.

I must say that I was a huge skeptic of these performance mouse pads. I figured how much better can it really be? I bought an XT a few months ago when this deal first stared because I was just using the top of my desk. I just had a shitty old logitech wired optical (mx310?) because all my wireless mice seemed to crap out. I noticed a nice gliding sensation with the mouse, but I knew the mouse sucked. I bought a Razer Copperhead off of woot, and when paired with this pad, it's like it's on air. The mouse just glides, it's a little strange at first, especially when you are used to all that friction, but you get used to it quickly and it's hard to go back to anything else. Thanks for the sweet pad kyle, as I probably would have kept ignoring it if I didn't find out [H] was behind it.

I was a bit skeptical as well, but damn, does this thing glide. I ordered mine on Saturday, and it just arrived (Monday). I think that's the fastest turnaround for for an online product I've ever had. I've had tracking errors with previous mouse pads so I never used one, but this XT seems to be extremely accurate.

Ordered Saturday morning, received it today. My desk is now happy and complete again...

Thanks Kyle!

Hehe, I was on site this weekend and personally carried both of your orders in to the USPS this weekend! :) You bastards making me work on Saturday.... ;)

Well, I ordered an XT :D

Now I'll have to go buy some wood to make the keyboard drawer on my desk bigger... no way it'll fit as it is. :(

Ahh the original Ratpadz were/still are AWESOME! I am STILL using my original ratpad with the flamed [H] logo, and try as I might, I havent been able to wear it down. I just wish we could still get the logo on the new ones...

If you don't have a Ratpad, get one. They're slick like when you touch your car's interior after rubbing Armor All all over it, but without the residue left on your fingers. ;)
