Hello,

I have a GTX 280 that is giving me problems. When I am Playing games my system will lock up, but the video will show all kinds of wierd wavy different colored lines throughout the monitor. I have to Reboot to get windows vista back.
The wavy lines are a zigzag pattern going horizontal corner to corner..
Kinda looks like this but much worse Link

and instead of just showing the pic its all different colors. The video looks like this http://img134.imageshack.us/i/img0121w.jpg/ but with zigzags instead of the diamonds

I used rivertuner to underclock the card but it still does it, and its totally random, but in games only.
I have watched several movies and it doesn't do it. I let windows sit for 3 days and it doesn't do it there either.
I ran 3dMark and sometimes it locks the system and sometimes it doesn't
I switched drivers to prior vers then switched to the newest driver and still does the same thing.
I do not have another card I could try in the system.

My system specs.
I7 920
6gigs OCZ DDR3
Gigabyte EX58-UD3R

Should I try to RMA the card? or do you think it might be something else?

Thank you,
Craig

You should RMA your card. The artifacts you are seeing are clear signs that your card is dying.

What driver version?

Yes, this is very relevant. There are reports from all over the world that the latest drivers are causing hardware failures and killing systems within 48 hours of installing them.

I think its the same issue, but my card did it before installing the 191 drivers. It happened with the 190 drivers.
I have tried to revert to earlier drivers and the newest drivers and same results. But it is totally random. Sometimes I can play hours without it doing it, other times it does it when I first load the game. So I don't know
I'm going to install windows 7 with a clean install this week, see how it reacts. If it still does it, I'm going to RMA my card
