Me and my friends are looking to do some co-op games on LAN and we want to play some good classic games. We recently ran through all the original doom games (Ultimate/2/Final) but other than that and Quake we're a bit unsure what else to play.

Definitely not limited to the FPS genre. As long as it isn't Diablo because I've played that game thousands of times.

Age of Empires I, II, and III
Quake II definitely
Contra Series
Doom3 runs one hell of a Co-op

btw: you haven't played doom in co-op until you tried this mod: Deus Vult II

Some shots from it:

Yes, that is indeed a Doom2 mod. The best part is: It's tailor made for co-op. It isn't just a single player mod with co-op starts thrown in, there is full co-op support with ammo and health and what have you. Try it with your friend, it will change the way you think about what Doom is capable of.

That mod looks pretty sweet. I wonder if it would run with Doomsday. Probably not that great due to all the custom graphics but could be worth a shot.

Doomsday is a source port that uses OpenGL with the Doom WAD files and when used with the jDRP (jDoom Resource Pack) will add things such as 3D models for items and creatures, new textures, mouse aiming support etc.

Wow. I have enough games in the pile that I need to play already...and now I'm seriously going to have to check that Doom II mod out as well. That's pretty awesome.

The zip file comes with its own source port to play in, you just have to provide the Doom2.wad file and that's it.

No idea how easy it is to set up, but the Build engine games had some good coop. Duke Nukem 3d, Shadow Warrior, and Blood. For an RPG, Neverwinter nights was pretty good in this department. If you're up for some RTS coop vs AI opponents, Warcraft 2, Starcraft, and the Kohan series come to mind. If you're up for something newer, then Dawn of War with skirmish AI mod could be quite good.

Classic Ghost Recon and Operation Flashpoint are a lot of fun to play co-op through. Nothing like a military sim with a team of competent players.

Neverwinter Nights is a common one that I run. There's serious modules and straight hack n' slash modules, so there's bound to be something that suits you guys there.

Serious Sam
SWAT4
Doom 3 (Last Man Standing Mod... can play Doom 1-2 in Doom 3 Graphics too!)
HL2 (Synergy Mod)

Gears of War, Halo...not "classics" as in older games, but nonetheless they are fun :)

Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale, and my favorite Icewind Dale 2...and yes it may have to do with my name :p Neverwinter Nights, but that has been mentioned already. So, Neverwinter Nights 2 :)

We should seriously have a thread stickied for co-op PC games. I always end up scrambling to find new co-op games on the odd chance I get to lan with my buddies.

I never knew there was a co-op mod for HL2… that’s awesome.

just curious but why classic games? Not a bad of course, but is it the limitation of say your friends computer? or the games typically cost cheaper?

Set up a MAME emulator for LAN play and play one of the thousands of fantastic co-op arcade games out there. Dungeons & Dragons: Shadow over Mystara for example :)

Will go ahead and throw Sven Coop (HL1 mod), and Joint Ops out there as well.

More on this please. All you need is the Last Man Standing mod?

That is correct. Works with the latest patches and also with the Doom 3 Expansion Resurrection of Evil.

IMO it is the most professional co-op mod I have ever played. It is SMOOTH. No bugs that I have encountered and you get to even see the cut scenes unlike HL2's Synergy.

Official mod site... but looks like it's down atm. www.doom3coop.com

I'd say Tribes, but its not really a campaign. I still love it though. For LAN party stuffs.

Serious Sam and Serious Sam 2. Fun games with constant waves of enemies.
