The video below demonstrates what Boeing Advanced Tactical Laser, fired from a moving airplane, can do to a vehicle. The results are scary – cool. Thanks to Henry M. for the link.

wow 30 billion dollars and thats all we get.lol(jk)
Bet it could melt a person pretty well Just hope they don't get in their car lol.
Wait, does this mean we can start using our laser pointers at commercial BOEING airliners?
When did the military start cribbing ideas from "Real Genius"?
pfff, all the enemy has to do is hold up a mirror.
(joking...hopefully)
This is better than a hail of bullets how exactly?

The laser beam will also move at the speed of light...which is a bit faster than a bullet which certainly helps targeting, ie no need to lead the target.
He suggests that laser weapons might be useful only against very soft targets such as pickup trucks and tents."
Seems like more of our tax dollars thrown uselessly into the military-industrial complex. Funny how some people are so upset if we spend $30 billion to help other human beings live healthier, happier lives but they don't care if we use it to develop useless "weapons" that can't do shit and take an entire tank of fuel to fire...

"Outside observers are skeptical that ATL will pave the way for practical laser weapons. Its more of a harassment weapon than anything else, says Philip Coyle, senior advisor at the Center for Defense Information (Washington, D.C.) and a former director of military testing. He says the laser would not be effective against hardened targets such as tanks, and that targeting individual soldiers would raise ethical concerns about blinding weapons. He suggests that laser weapons might be useful only against very soft targets such as pickup trucks and tents."
Let's kill those tents! DIE TENT, DIE!!!!!
I'd be pretty freaked out if an entire military tent camp suddenly caught fire with no warning. Or better yet, the tents were all chopped up into sections.
Could use it to lase munitions dumps. That'd be cool.
A hail of bullets won't penetrate tank armor.
