Looking to pick up a Studio Hybrid, likely from Dell Outlet, but was wondering if anyone had read any news about a new revision (hopefully with a newer video chipset) coming out in the next few months.

Thanks!

Currently they offer a broadcom chipset that will play bluray movies but you must use the special TMT3 software included. I believe its 75$ extra.
Im in the same boat as you, whoever puts out something around that size that can play BD/1080p I will be buying 6.
The best deal I have found was on buy.com its a refurb for ~600$ almost fully spec'd out. Here and rings up 1200$ new on dells website.

EDIT: It seems that the broadcom chipset is only avaliable with the 200$ BDD option now and isn't even listed.

I just purchased one of these for $320 shipped. Its for my girlfriend but I thought I would "evaluate" it as a media center. In doing my research I found a discussion on AVS Forums where folks have been purchasing the Broadcom accelerator for less than $50. Seems folks are able to playback using software other than the Dell supplied software with some success.

I'm not really finding the attraction to the Studio Hybrid other then with it's very nice case. You can easily build a similar configed system just as cheaply but with more options (and much better performance). What am I missing here?

To be frank, I don't think you are missing anything. I agree with you. I just wanted an almost plug and play solution. I didn't want to bother with building a machine and for $280 bucks ($320 with tax and shipping) I'm happy with the solution. Plus, the power jack has a nice blue LED in it! Still, defintely a compromise. Packaging v. performance.
