I'll shoot you my 1841's script so you can look at it when we are done(minus all the passwords). So you don't miss out on the learning chance.

I'll be doing this until my lab exam.. which will be in February at the earliest. I'm sure there will be a few others like xphil3 and vito that will stick around too.
 
I've got a 2621xm with an old copy of IOS on it but this is beyond me. What version of IOS would I need? I guess if I could get this setup, I've got an older Intel V8 platform with dual x5355 xeons and 8gb of memory I could throw on it for an ESXi sandbox for you guys.
 
Ok I don't have any Cisco stuff yet but PICS should be required of everyone's setups :D
 
Was it ever figured out if PFsense could do this? Or should i start looking on EBay for a compatable cisco router. This sounds like something that i would want to join in on.

pfsense 2.0 will support gre tunnels. It still is in Alpha release, so use it at your own risk

everyone seem to be looking for different way to do this. So thought i ask, how about Dynamips?

seen all this cisco talk and thought of the sticky :p :)
 
Dynamips would work, however, its designed for labs so the performance is quite poor (i think they claim a few thousand PPS)

I'd like to make route view accounts for the people in this, accounts with limited show commands. We could either make a single account that everyone has the PW to, or individual accounts for each person. Basically I want a looking glass for this project. Thoughts?

Single un/pass will keep it simple, but individual un/pass will let you know with phil is hacking it and wanting to blame it on me
 
Haha, yea, that's what I was thinking too.

So has anyone else joined the party? I'm peered with xphil3 through one tunnel and his roommate through another.
 
xphil3 and I worked on getting my tunnel up last night without any luck. Nat-T doesn't like to play well with IPSEC over GRE.

Doing some research on it today, if all else fails, i'm moving the 2801 to the edge.

There is a disscussion board on the goog group. Think you may want to consider floating it on there too. keep this one clean for making others jelous of wanting to join

Yep, Like I said im going to build a dynamips router and iBGP peer it to my AS as a route server. I can set this up when everyone get their gear together and we get more people! :D

Everything I looked at today looked like it was the same config we originally had(pubs for tunnel endpoints). Im going to talk to some other people as well, see if I can find anything. Let me know if you move it to the edge, you could always put the ASA in transparent mode behind the 2801 :) .

I haven't really had a chance too yet today. Friggin swamped at work. Then again, Cisco's website was down here for a few hours this am.

yeah, i sent one guy an email so we'll see. Also, I was thinking that we could move the crypto off to the ASA and just terminate the GRE on the router. This shouldn't be too hard and would just need to do some nat exemptions. Lets try this later today.
