Bought a XFX GTX 260 Black edition seven months ago and regretting it. Its now my fourth dead nVidia card in the last 2-3 years. All the money and time wasted on RMAing shit to and from Canada is getting very old. I regret not switching to ATi between this and the coil whine.

I bought two HD4850s a week before they released (scammed Best Buy into pulling them from the back) and got them dirt cheap (scammed Best Buy again because the ati cards were all 25% off inprep for the 4800 launch the next week) and loved them for the longest. However, driver problems plagued me on Vista64 and they were extremely unstable due to heat issues after a heavy game had been running for hours on end, or FarCry 2 after 5 minutes of play. I sold them on Amazon for $20 more than I paid originally and bought a single GTX275, EVGA. No regrets and I haven't looked back since.

Wow the numbers are quite telling.

Considering the margins for AMD are higher than those for nVIDIA on each card sold and that AMDs graphics card division barely inched out a profit last quarter this explains why nVIDIA has been in the red as of late.

I got two GTX280 back in July 08 and also it supports physx which makes the best combo for gaming atm unlike ATI.

Not to be mean, but you paid $600/card for a promise that you would get physx enabled games? Which game have you played that you actually used physx in?

Skipping this generation.

Already have a 8800GTS that does very well in most games I play, and the performance difference doesn't seem *that* big worth an upgrade to me.

I'm assuming there are a decent # of 8800 owners just sticking with their current card no?

i am using a 3870X2 and am keeping it for now till the new cards come out later this year then

I'd buy nvidia if I have money to burn but currently do not so ATI is my choice.

Not really since this is comparing NVIDIA's top end line against ATI's entire product line.

Anything below the 4870 is not matched up against the 2xx series.

The poll should have included the 9600,9800, etc.

But given the name of the poster.

BRB having an 8800GTS in my closet and a GTX280 in my other rig

Now why the fuck would I include the 9000 nVidia cards if I wasn't including the 3000 series of radeon cards?

And if I remember correctly (and I could be wrong) the 4850 was very competitive with the GTX260 192.

More edit: I actually didn't include the 4300 and 4600 series, and said GTx2xx series to include the GTS200 series, so I'm unsure what you were talking about.

I returned the GTX 260 and ordered a 4890. GTX260 came in as a dud and it was too long to comfortably fit in my computer case.

Went from a GTX 260 Core 216 to an XFX 4890, got tired of the jet engine of a cooler so I got rid of it and went back to my trusty GTX 260. Also have a pair of 4870s but they are each in a different computer.

lmao

I like ATI & Nvidia but to claim that Nvidia has the best gaming capabilities because of PhysX...well...that's just ridiculous.

Got my GTX 260 on ebay, got like 30% back thanks to cashback.

That and the mail in rebate got me this puppy for like $130.

Probably one of the best deals I have ever gotten on PC hardware (or anything for that matter), I cut close to half the price off.

For my big rig I bought a 4850 a while back. Price point was just two sweet.
My laptop has a GTX 260m though. Once again, price point being sweet. =p

you're right that was a typo in my post. But other than the GTX and GTS, did nVidia have any other offerings this series?

Considering the 9800GTX competes with the 4850 and the 9800GT, 9600GT and other 9xxx series cards are the actual competition for the remaining 4xxx series. That was the point I'm making.

Although I really don't think ATI has a GPU that competes with the GTX280/285.

4890 is the GPU you are looking for.. :D

And the 9800 Series were re-branded to be called GTS.

I chose the GTX260 over the 4870 a while ago. They were close enough in performance but I bought it when Nvidia had just dropped the price to where it was $30 or so cheaper. Plus my primary OS is Linux and NVIDIA cards are normally much less of a hassle.

The 8800GT in my wife's system is starting to die. I'll probably go with whatever is cheapest at the time it dies.

Throw it in the oven for 10 minutes.

Which does not change the fact that the poll is ATI's entire line up vs a partial NVIDIA lineup.

The 4770, 4830, 4550, 4350, 4650, etc, etc, are not anywhere close to being in the same class as the 2xx series.

So, yeah the poll is flawed in that way.

GTX2 isn't equal to GTx2. The GTx2 can be either a GTX or a GTS.

Over 320 voters, you're the only one that doesn't realize GTx is a variable for GTS or GTX.

Why do you keep changing the subject?

I said 2xx series. Is that not the same?

Do any of the cards I listed compare to the GTS/GTX?

It's like if your poll said. Which CPU did you buy, Phenom II or Intel.

Also, what does your screen name mean?

I've hated nVidia as a company since the 5800U fiasco with driver cheating and shlock performance, I'm using a 4870x2 currently and couldn't be happier since upgrading from a 9800 Pro.

But I didn't say Geforce GTX280 vs any ATi HD4000 series, I stated GTx 2xx which could be a GTS 250, GTX 260, GTX 280, and any variants thereof. The nVidia 9000 series was not released by nVidia to compete with the HD4000 series, it was released in my opinion, to test out die shrinks of the previous 8000 series, and see if it helped them in marketing and sales.

um most of the 9 series had nothing to do with die shrinks over the 8 series. the 9 series was basically just marketing name change.

Ahh. I stand corrected. For some reason I thought the 9800s at least had something to do with a die shrink.
