I'm looking strongly at the MX700, but I'm not sure if its rechargeable or not. It comes with a dock, right?

I don't want to spend too much by the way. I'll be using this for a laptop.

The MX700 has a recharging dock. It's not ideal if you plan on taking it around with you though, since the dock acts as the receiver a well and the whole dock+power adapter+mouse bundle is kind of bulky.

For a laptop, just get one that uses batteries and use rechargeable batteries. You really do lose a lot of portability when you have to bring a charger and subsequent power cord and all that jazz along. I really like the VX Nano for a wireless laptop mouse.

I have 2 Logitech G7's and love them for the most part. The battery life could be a bit longer though. (3-6 hours). The receiver is as small as a USB thumb drive. The charging module doubles as an extra USB port. Adjustable DPI on the fly is nice as well. Check it out.

I agree with using a smaller mouse than the MX700. The MX700 also has various issues such as not recharging in its dock (meaning you'll have to remove and recharge the batteries manually) and that its paint easily rubs off.

The VX Nano is probably the best notebook mouse out. The VX Revolution is also a good notebook mouse, though larger than the Nano.

/agree w/Dj... You don't need the expensive G7... The VX series are great mice.

A good non-rechargable mouse is actually pretty good. I bought this logitech one that uses 2 non rechargable AAs (can't remember the model number off the top of my head) and its lasted around 9 months without a battery change. Granted I dont use it for long periods every day, but I have been known to forget to turn it off for days on end and its still lasted. Better than my Dad's rechargable one where he has to recharge it every few days!

FYI, I had an old logitech wireless mouse for notebooks (it was really small), and it ate up AA batteries like a pornstar ate cock. Fucking nightmare, and it was a huge bitch having to buy them all the time.

I shelled out for a MX 5500 set (bluetooth mouse and keyboard) I figured for how much I use it and how long I'll have it for I can justify spending a bit more for something nice.

I second the motion to just get a wireless mouse without a dock and just change out the batteries. Most new battery powered mice actually have excellent battery life.

I wonder why no one has recommended the Razer Mamba.

I don't have it yet, but I have a friend who raves about it, and there's plenty of positive reviews out there.

If you have the money, I'd get it. I'm saving up for one myself.

edit: Nevermind, I read this as "gaming wireless mouse". Oops!

edit2: wait... this is the gaming forum. Yes, get the Mamba, if you're planning to game.

Microsoft Sidewinder X8. Only wireless mouse I recommend for gaming...has a cable to charge it (can be used while charging) and uses a single AA NiMh battery.

Yeah, I've heard the older ones were bad, but the newer ones are designed to last a lot longer. The one I bought last year has lasted around 9 months. Though I wouldn't recommend it if you're gaming. That said, I wouldn't recommend any wireless mouse for gaming. :p

Know of a good battery charger?

While not really a rechargeable mouse, the battery life of the Logitech LX7 is incredibly long. It's advertised to last 8 months on a fresh AA batteries and I was surprised/impressed that it actually did. I actually prefer that to a rechargeable one that i have to put on a charger every other day.
