Faded edges on LG L246WP?

I just got a refurbished LG L246WP that I believe was manufactured in 2007. There is a ~20 pixel border going around the whole screen where the picture is a bit faded. It's only noticeable on darker backgrounds. Does anyone know what this problem means?

I'm using it on analog connected through an adapter to my video card's DVI port. I won't be able to test digital operation until tomorrow. My power might be a bit dirty. I have only had it running for about 2 hours.

Any thoughts you guys may have are much appreciated. There's only one dead pixel so I really hope I don't have to RMA this thing.

(ignore the flash reflection)

Switching to digital has not affected anything. Is this something that can be repaired?

It appears to be a backlight bleeding issue. There is nothing you can do to fix it.

It is one of the limitations of LCD technology.

Thanks for your thoughts, guys.

Jaguar, what makes you think it's backlight bleed and not backlight death? Backlight bleed might be something I could live with. Previous backlight bleed that I have seen was always very bright right where lcd screen meets plastic housing, and then gradually a bit dimmer moving inward. On my monitor, the faded part is uniformly faded, and doesn't seem to "spill out" onto the plastic housing.

Fender: I may well have the panel you returned =O! Where'd you buy yours?

EDIT: Also, can backlight bleed get worse over time?

It is not backlight death because:

1. Dead backlight = no light at all.
2. An entire horizontal section of the screen would simply be black. To the best of my knowledge all CCFL are aligned horizontally.

Here's a picture that I modified to highlight what the problem looks like:

And here's a picture I found of the only kind of LCD bleed that I know of.

On mine, there's a uniform fade all along the sides (not thicker in the middle of a side) and a uniform fade from the side all the way until it stops (rather than being brightest at the edge and getting less bright moving inward).

I bought it at a FutureShop in Vancouver. I had to do 2 exchanges until I found one that I liked (the second one had a different problem).

I have seen this on a number of non-TN panels, and on each of them the border went away over a short period of time of using the monitor.

Hexadecimal: How short a period of time? Was the faded border going around the entire monitor? Were the units on which you saw this problem new or refurbished?

I've put 20-30 hours on this monitor and I don't think the faded border has really gone away.

well, that's great news hex. i'll give it some more time and see what develops. it may not have been heavily used, but I just don't know.

Here's the update on my monitor. The faded edges have completely gone away on 3 of the 4 sides, but the left side, which was always the most faded, remains somewhat faded. Much less than before, though. It's not something I notice without really looking for it, so I decided to keep the monitor. Every couple days I do get some weird pink artifacts around screen objects for a few seconds, but maybe that's something for another thread.

If that worked, try Deadpixelbuddy. It will give your monitor pixels a real workout.
