Steam allows you to run a command with the shortcut.

This is my problem too...both a 4870 and the game runs through Steam. What can I do here?

In Steam, you can add parameters to startup by right clicking the game from the list, or simply add it as a parameter to your desktop shortcut.

Works fine, hope it works for you too.

More specifically right click the game, select properties, click on "Set launch options"

Shit!

I spent all weekend reformatting and installing 3 different OS's (and 2 versions of each)

>.<

I spent 2 nights messing with the demo, one of which was just to turn off vsync, the other was to get crossfire working, in the process I hacked the OS security to pieces to get it to work, at which point I just uninstalled the demo.

I was really surprised yet relieved that adding that parameter worked, played all weekend, what an awesome game. Especially the CTI type multiplayer modes on the LAN. Spent a lot of time in the editor too, scripting vehicles and players to respawn equals endless hours of goofing about with friends.

Can I turn off vsync with CCC and my 4870? I don't see the option ANYWHERE.

I will certainly try this out. This game is somewhat intriguing, but seems a bit slow in between action (not too much going on).

Don't make the mistake of killing your own team......you get stuck in a "vring vring vring vring vring - I'm a dirty ho" mode......

Right click the desktop and select CCC from the menu, goto the 3d menu and select all settings sub menu and scroll down and find "wait for verticle refresh", set it to force off always, I'm fairly sure it doesn't work for Amra in vista though.

On a different note, my CCC is not showing any options other than welcome and information centre....erk

I am now running WIndows 7 64 bit RC1.

Same here, it's not going to work then.

The only other method of forcing it off in Win7 x64 was to download and install ATI Tray Tools, but you need to google that, find the forum, get the latest beta version for that feature.

Once you've done that to get it working you'll need to disable UAC and then download a small app to disable driver signing so that ATI Tray Tools will work correctly, once you've done that you can create a profile for Arma2 and set Vsync off.

It's a massive headache, took hours to work it all out, and I wouldn't recommend UAC off and driver signing disabled as a long term solution, it's a bit of a security issue.

So will the "-winxp" fix work for me on Win7 RC1?

That's what I did with Flashpoint. Didn't bite until an appropriate amount of time had elapsed for enough patches to come out.

I think its fixed. I put in the maxmem line, and restarted. Now my fps actually changes when i change settings! 35 - 45 fps with everything very high, besides terrain and object, which is on high with 133%. Stuttering is gone too, besides in the start of a mission (just need to turn 360 degrees once, then its gone). Man, i get higher fps than this on Crysis maxed. Beast of a game.

And the update of the patch 1.02 -

http://forums.bistudio.com/showpost.php?p=1330520&postcount=3

Change log for build 58134 from the previous patch 1.02:

* Fixed localVRAM detection on Vista x64 systems with 8 GB RAM and more
* Enabled MSAA in Video options
* Fixed possible crash in Radio target reporting for NULL target
* Fixed DOF always enabled on game start.
* Added safeguard againg frequent reset into RequestFlushMemory as well.
* Improved Cannot create surface Rpt messages.
* Relaxed reset recovery conditions to that "profylactic" reset happens less often.
* HC command - enabled page selection
* Commandline parameter -netlog available in retail version again
* Editor fix: modules info serialization
* Fix: weapon fire effects in MP

Demo works fine for me, and is fairly fun.

However, I have difficulty accepting that any soldier out there, except maybe a French, would have difficulty diving to prone from an aiming position. I got killed a few times because I rushed the "right click to de-scope> press crouch button" process. Wouldn't mind it if pressing sprint towards a rock and hitting "prone" actually made you do so, instead of standing there like a moron getting shot by an APC from a mile away.

Basically, I think it would be nice if pressing a new command actually made you perform it at the expense of any animation that was currently playing; I'm not so sure that anyone out there would continue to stand and shoulder his SMAWthing whilst under fire before dropping to the ground. I think he might make staying alive his priority.

Yes, wait until it's finished basically, I refuse to buy games until they're complete.

^you don't play red orchestra do you by any chance

No, it i a horrible game. I love realism; I played the shit out of Project Reality until they started fucking with it and took all the fun away. This game is still fun, as I mentioned. All the same, my point remains valid. I don't think that it is necessary that you stand there waiting for a five second animation to complete before dropping to the ground or whatever.

I loved the mod RO but the game was garbage, first major regrettable purchase on steam, made me curb itchy shopping finger.

are you guys kidding me ? RO is such a good game, ok maybe it pushes unreal 2.5 to the limits but I believe tripwire did a very good mod-to-retail port just like they did with killing floor, every kill feels so satisfying especially with a bolt action rifle at 200 meters, 3D sound is superb on my x-fi ( no bastard can sneak up behind me without hearing him :D ) tank vs infantry combat is very good too, rockets ricochet off armor if you hit it at the wrong spot but still tanks are very vulnerable due to limited visibility and aiming conditions just like in real life, god i love blowing up T-34s :D

Darkest Hour is a very good mod too if you get tired of the eastern front setting :)

Trip Wire really are masters with EAX sound, Killing Floor sound is sex with an X-Fi.

Got in a good room last night. We ran a convoy of Humvees to the place we were taking over with Cobra escorts. If all games would go like they should rather than people team killing and running around not working as a team the game would be awesome.

Yes, but everything is so damn slow. I can't figure out shit like how to change weapons, why I can't fly a helicopter or jet (I get in the pilot seat and then it kicks me out).

I need to get back into Battlefield 2.....

you have to establish a certain rank before you can pilot a chopper, etc. ARMA is intimidating at first, give it time and it will be more than worth it. i recommend playing around in SP a little to get familiar with the game mechanics.

Play on actual PVP maps then. I just had a blast on a 20 on 20 map, running through the trees using actual tactical cover strategies with my buddies is amazing. As is lining up a few 6-700 meter shots with the .50 cal and actually having to lead the target; then making them!

Did you do the tutorial missions? Or did you just try to jump in to multiplayer and go BF2 style?

go back to bf2 then. the less noob players running around like headless chickens Tking everyone and acting stupid, the better experience it is for us proper players looking for a tactical game.

Not that I'm saying that you don't have a point, but a niche game as ArmA 2 is, it needs all the sales it can get.....otherwise it'll just go down.

its been the number one selling game on steam so far. There are reasons why COD type run gun blah blah games sell more, because its dumbed down and easy to get in and play with next to no learning curve at all.

Most people our gen prefere to not use a single brain cell when playing games. Even movies and music is being dumbed down and recycled. i sound like a old man when im only on my early 20's:eek:

Look, i'm all for realism in games and honestly i hate CoD and the likes. I enjoy ArmA 2, but i also know some things are just totally retarded. When i open the map and can't see where i am, then that's annoying. Nothing short of annoying. Not knowing where my Squad members are is, kindly said, annoying. It doesn't do much for the game at all. Really. It adds nothing to the playability.

Sometimes, things can be dumbed down to make things more enjoyable without losing the realism. The map mode in ArmA 2 is such a thing. It'd be easy to have a marker with your location on it and would not take away from the reaslism at all. I don't need a mini map or glowing arrows. Just a darn location marker on my map would make this game 1000 times more enjoyable right there.

Then play on a server that doesnt set the difficulty to veteran. I do understand your issue as i had that exact same issue last night. i was stranded somewhere and it took me half an hour to figure out my fucking location and to ask for a pick up!!

I think a lot of people are leaving the game or avoiding buying it are to do with issues with the game rather than how easy it is to play, BIS messed up in some fairly big ways, it effects people and they have less patience to learn things if they've spent hours fighting problems that shouldn't exist.

Lmao, I love how people are turned off so fast by the bugs and the difficulty-ness (I know it's not a word) and say that FUCK THE DEMO SUCKS while they don't realize that they actually do suck themselves. BF2 and CS has spoiled people these days.
