World’s First Mobile Augmented Reality Browser

That phone must have stored patterns and it is trying to find a match when recognizing image, than download information from internet and show them on HUD.

Is it just me, or is the youtube player on [H] front page pink?

All it needs to do is determine GPS location and then download map data to get corresponding GPS info on surrounding objects. The fact you see on the screen where you are pointing just helps you to more naturally get your bearings, it doesn't do anything functional. This is the next logical step, good stuff.

Ya looks good. I'll definetly try this out on my G1 when it becomes available for us here in the states.

I saw some kids working on a similar project in a computer engineering program at this college...

Another group had a working cellphone... both were pretty ghetto looking but worked...

The front end software is the easy part. The real challenge I see is in parsing recent data for use in the backend and keeping it organized. If you've ever searched for GIS data you'll find a huge plethora of relevant and irrelevant data in various forms, free or paid, API or none, big and small. Consider how much information is missing if the database you're using comes from out of town, let alone out of country.

Can't wait to try this out. I bet that we'll be seeing "airvertising" using this technology within the first 1-2 years. Interesting new possiblilities galore here.

this has been in scifi novels and tv/movies for decades now. geez welcome to the PAST!

bring on the transporters and warp drives!!!!

i want holodeck pronto!

Damn there goes my great idea...google has slowly worked towards it with their street maps and now this just takes the cake.

I could see similar tech in the future used for business advertisements, restaurant guides, tourist spots, etc. integrated into eyeglasses or train/vehicle windows. Probably supported by ad revenue that is targeted to the viewer and their selected interests.

What would be awesome is to have software that recognizes all sorts of objects and can automatically search info on them. It could get you info on just about anything you see.

reminds me of "Eden of the East" and their photo recognition software.

this just adds to the multiple reasons why I want a google ION... or a myTouch as they're calling it now.. now I just need to fall in to a pit of money so I can afford a data plan

Seems pretty slick. I'm still waiting for the "Pocket Desktop" though... Just plug into docking station and run everything off of it at work (like a laptop) or you can carry it in your pocket.

That would be nice if it worked easily as it is meant to. IMO seems quite futuristic.
