I'm looking for a small (very small) 12v DC power supply with at least 250Watts.

It's the key to a contingency plan I have in mind ,allowing me to run my new 220Watts worth of Delta Fans independently of the computer controlling the other computer that communicates with the computer that drives my watercooling system (jeeze... this project is getting complicated Haha)

I searched the Internets on the Google machine but didn't find too many cost viable solutions.
I'm sure there's at least one person here who's seen such an item, and can be of assistance.
Points in any direction would be helpful at this time.

My priority with this item is it needs to be as small as possible and I'm not one to sacrifice quality so no ebay cheapo's.

Thanks in advance. =)

I'm afraid you might be out of luck. You want cheap, small, and high-power. That's a tall order.

A uATX or 1U server PSU might be the closest you'll find. Another option is to look for a higher-voltage power supply with a lower current rating, like a 48V/5A power supply. Then use a PWM controller (which can handle 48 volts) with a 25% duty cycle to step the voltage down to 12V.

How small are you looking for, and how in the world do you have 220 Watts of fans? A typical 120mm fan is 3W during startup (and considerably less once it's running).

He did say deltas, and they're monsters. The 120x120x38mm ones can go over 8W at 12V.

Lol... the Deltas I'm using have a max draw of 48W each at 12V.... delivering about 250CFM though.

Cheap is a relative term - I'm willing to doll out a couple hundred but it needs me about 2x as small as an average 300W 12V meanwell.

The best option I've found so far is 177.8mm*108mm*35.5mm and it's only 200WATTS

I will be drawing a minimum of 220 watts when turning on the fans (power spike) at 3/4" speed. Then a minimum of 185W just to run them at 3/4 speed.

I've figured out my size constraints. I'd have done this earlier but I was at work slacking off when I had the idea.

The unit must fit the follow compartment:
Length: 18"
Height: ~1"
Width: ~5"

And have the following specs:
120V AC input
12V DC output
250Watts +
Preferably passively cooled (not that I'd ever be able to hear it over the fans... it's the principle), but at the size I want I don't think that's going to be an option.

It's pretty much gong to by strapped to the side of my rad/fan/shroud assembly, inside the copper tray that will house the radiator in my Prometheus project.

That 1" height is going to be awful hard to find. The closest I can think of off the top of my head is a 1U server PSU, which will be 1.75" or so high.

I can't help you with PSU but I gotta say... those delta fans you got are overkill. I've had customers turn down servers with those fans because they're too loud for their server room.

Too loud in the server room?

Sorry I tried the electronic surplus site I know - like alltronics, electronic goldmine, bg micro etc ... and I can't find anything with a 12v 20a (250w) rating in the size you need... I'll keep checking and update you if I come across anything...
