WD 1TB Caviar Black drive:

Some thing didn't add up, Dell has this WD 1TB Caviar Black drive for sale at $20 instant savings, which bring the price down to $109.99.

Well, Dell supposedly also currently have this 25% off special going on, but when applied the coupon code on this particular drive, the price only comes down to $97.49, which seems to be that the 25% takes precedent over the $20 instant saving.

Too bad, it would be so nice to have: $129.99 - 20 + 25% off= $82.49

However, is $97,49 still a good price for this drive?
 
It's okay...but you should be looking for 1.5T drives from around $100-110. Those are the nice deals right now.
 
I should have purchased last night, but I lost my debit card.. Two 640 gbAAKS for 57 a piece is cheap, I bought my first one on newegg special for 60 with free ship. I needed two more for a raid setup. DAMN IT
 
The 25% doesn't compound with already discounted items, it seems. Too bad, otherwise I would have been all over a 3008.
 
How is the quality of Dell packaging for hard drives? I've heard some bad things about newegg and good things about amazon, but how is dell's quality?
 
Update on debit card, Cashier at hardee's kept it on "accident" i had to cancel it and won't get one in the mail for another 5 - 7 days! DOH!... still want those hard drives bad

I have received several hard drives over the years from dell and all the packaging quality has been good. The only different being your single drive is cradled in a custom foam packing or your drive is suspended using the plastic clam shells (Similar to Retail drives).

YMMV. I bought a bunch of Seagate 1.5TB drives via the Dell deal a few weeks ago. Three of them came nicely packaged in foam hdd packaging, while the other four were loose in brown wrapping paper.

Bummer on the deal. That IPS screen looked most tempting.

Actually, if you negotiate with the right sales rep on the phone, Dell will let you haggle the price down to around $200-$225 shipped, checkout post # 688 here in the 2209WA thread.

The coupon was just an easier way of getting the discount, without having to phone a Dell sales rep.
