I must say that I am now agreeing with a lot of other people...Absolutely horrible packaging.

it was able to bounce around everywhere and had only one layer of the bubble wrap, and almost no peanuts..

Plus the drive doesnt even spin up.

I am now thinking that we should all not buy any HDD's from newegg ever again.

I love them for everything else, but this isnt one of them. :(

Amazon has the best single-drive packaging I've ever seen. I've never ordered more than one so I can't testify on that.

On the other hand, I've had quite a few Western Digital single-HDD orders with Newegg without issue. I got a 320GB 7200.10 Seagate once that was really loud when I installed it, so I returned it.

You might want to skip Dell as well. They used to ship me drives surrounded in foam, packed inside individual boxes. The one I got last week showed up shrink-wrapped to a bit of cardboard and then shoved into a bubble mailer. It, as expected, was DOA. Maybe that was a fluke, and I'm going to give them another chance, but I honestly don't see why it's so hard to properly ship a hard drive.

I got sucked into a good deal on a 2.5" 7200RPM drive from Newegg and bought it even though I've heard of reports like this. Wouldn't you know it, the SATA connector was busted on it when I received it. While this could have happened even before Newegg received it since the damage couldn't be seen through the antistatic bag, I'm leaning toward the theory that the bubble wrap machine wound the bubble wrap so tight that it broke the connector or something to that effect.

While Newegg was great about refunding my money, I'm a bit annoyed that I had to pay to ship it back and still didn't benefit from the original deal.

I just bought a HD from TigerDirect. It came in a plastic form fitted package and a piece of brown construction paper in a box 10 times larger than necessary. I tried them because everyone complains about newegg's hd shipping. At least they put bubble wrap and peanuts around the whole thing.

I've had some bad experiences from ZZF myself; and sometimes NewEgg packaging is lacking.

I'd be great if we could find one place that has consistently good hard drive packaging instead of seeing thread after thread of hard drive packaging horrors.

Well, I am also thinking that people in their packaging department simply dont care...

I guess it isnt their product.

I wasn't too thrilled with ZFF's. They sent me a drive in a foam box thing that was in a larger box filled with peanuts. The inside of the foam box was a bit larger than the drive. The opening of the foam enclosure was about the size of a drive, but of course the inside is larger, so there was potential for a lot of movement.

Perhaps we should buy retail instead of OEM drives. At least that way they'll come in the original box.

Naw. OEM all the way! What, you don't like receiving naked components all vulnerable yet willing?
