A posting on the Microsoft Internet Explorer blog says that IE8 is almost ready and that a blocker tool is out already to help IT admins / corporate customers block the install until they have a chance to test IE8 on their network.

The IE8 update will be released as the highest priority update for each operating system. For Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008, it will be listed as Important. For Windows XP and Windows Server 2003, the update will be listed as High Priority. Delivery of IE8 via AU will begin after we make IE8 available from the Microsoft Download Center. Of course, users can always decline to install IE8 through AU when it is offered.

I have the beta on my spare PC at home the past several months but I actually forgot about it lol.

I guess that's a good thing. It just shows that IE8 doesn't scream "instability" and crash, making you conscious of it.

Odd, I was looking at the bug list yesterday and they stated how beta 3 will be released soon.

Maybe beta 3 will be released with the final version being released a little after that? I was thinking maybe it would be released at the same time as SP2 for Vista.

I like IE8 a lot, but its buginess with maintaining cookies across tabs made me give up on the beta after a few weeks. The sooner they can iron out all the kinks the better.

I tried the beta for a couple of days and it does have some nice features but it is pretty much garbage. On forums it wouldn't load all the text and when there was a post with a lot of smilies it would lag. Also when you have more than three tabs open and you like to multitask between them a lot then it will freeze up and you'll have to shut down the application and start it back up and recover the tabs it will just freeze so you have to start from your homepage all over again.

There is a known issue that it has sometimes with sites that use a database backend. I see it every now and then on IMDB. Forums would be the same. This problem was suppose to have been fixed in the current "private beta" version and is suppose to be fixed in the upcomming public beta 3.

Or at least that is what the bug posting I read yesterday stated.

wendig0 sounds like you have system issues, ie8 beta2 was very stable on my system but when flash 10 was released I started getting occassionaly crashes on flash heavy sites. However you feel, this is only a good thing, everyone will get a more secure browser (IE8 will enable DEP by default) that supports better standards. The days of drive-by malware are very limited, imo, thanks to efforts by MS.
IE still has its protected mode, I prefer extra security and a keep-it-simple browsing experience anyway. Hopefully MS can get most everyone off IE6 and IE7 in fairly short order with the auto-update of IE8...

Shit my job still makes us use IE6, and now IE8 is coming out?

IE8 is fairly good if do not mind the slow speed incompatibility problems etc.

My system is fine. I've never had any problems with any other software. Maybe it's because I'm still on xp. I'm waiting for windows 7 though.

firefox

nothing to say about it i just had to mention firefox in this thread before somebody seriously does ;)

I had some issues with it as well. For me it was mainly on IMDB. Although not a great number. I'm running it on my work laptop (xp) and it works fine for the most part. One of the pages that I need to use for work doesn't work correctly with IE8 so I can't use it on my main work box (Vista) just yet. But when I was using it for awhile I had about the same amount of issues with it as I did with XP. That said, I have found sites that won't work correctly in IE8 unless I run them in IE7 mode. Which I don't believe is anything

What version where you running Wendig0? There was a beta1 (developers version) and then beta 2. Beta 1 did have a lot more issues then beta 2.

ditto for my job.

I tried the IE8 beta. It seemed alright but didn't have anything that blew my socks off.

We use IE7 on every computer except the Citrix server. I needed a way to make Citrix open folders via web app (see command string below) and IE7 doesn't support folder view. Only 6 and under.

Code:
"C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" -root -e %USERPROFILE%\My Documents

I'm sure that it was the the 2nd beta but I could be wrong. I use firefox and will always use firefox unless it starts to go down the drain.
