WOW.

I love this game. I bought it when GoGamer was having the special, and man, I'm so glad I did. The slow motion makes the game freaking awesome. Especially with the shotgun. This game is actually the first game since a part in HL2 that has made me jump as well.

Does anybody still play the MP?

I never got past the first part of the game where that talking zombie dude knocks ya out. I just lost interest in the game after that point.

I thought it was ok. The more I played, the more I just wanted to get it over with. I beat it and uninstalled it and haven't been back since. A lot of people on these boards think the game is awesome though.

Yeah, I can understand how it may not be for some people.
I can't wait to finish it in time for the new one though!

Agreed. It just wasnt "my" type of game. <---I should have added that to my post....sorry.

Fear is one of my favorite games of the past few years. There are some really good mod maps on mutiplayer. *think first level of duke nukem with actual porn playing in the movie theater. Cheesy but fun.

one of the better single FPSs out there.

Then again its hard to be wowed by a single player FPS these days

Get Perseus Mandate. Way better then the first installment of FEAR.

I thought the new weapons were okay and the background music wasn't a total fail, but the storyline of the game was lame to say the least. Also that game used much more system memory than either of the first two games, I needed just slightly more than 2gb to play that game maxed out at 1152x864.

F.E.A.R was a pretty good game tho, its past its time, but the multiplayer part is available for free (but only a few hundred people are on it and usually never doing DM)

i love FEAR. I played through the SP 3 times, which is unusual for me. haven't played MP in a while but i might reinstall it again. great game.

I got it though that sale also.. along with timeshift and SOF-3 . not bad when can get 3 games for less than the cost of one, doesnt even matter if the game sucks ie sof-3 . Havent started any of them yet, just got a new mod for Obliv so still doing that. .

I don't have the full retail version of F.E.A.R yet. I've played the multiplayer demo and liked it.

When it comes to nades and such, I'm rather good at timing and being precise.

I just recently installed F.E.A.R. after a very long time from playing it. I love the gameplay & storyline. :)

Somebody actually liked PM? You must be like the only one.
I liked it but it wasn't nearly as good as the first game or the first expansion. The combat in PM is a bit more intense and it has pretty good level design.

If you like the first two games you should like PM. But keep in mind that it doesn't pick up from where EP left off.

A whole ton of people that reviewed PM hated it. EP was alright according to many but still didn't live up to the original game.

I don't know if anyone touched on the subject but the multiplayer portion of the game is free to download. Good to know if you don't own the game. I am not sure if they update the original multiplayer or what.

F.E.A.R Combat is what its called.

I really liked FEAR and the first expansion. I played them one right after the other and then went on to PM, but I couldn't get into it. FEAR is one of the best games I've played. Definitely in the top 5 for me.

Thanks for reminding me to re-install fear (5 cd version, grrr.)

I'd been wanting to test it out on my GTX280, because in all the time that I've owned it, I never really had a true high-end card to run it on. I know this is probably overkill, but FEAR was always one of those games that seemed to take as much card as you could give it.

How are the expansions?

How are the expansions?
Extraction Point is very good and Perseus Mandate is a solid FPS but has little to do with the main story. Both expansions are very long (EP seems almost as long as the first game), making them worth the money.

I just went ahead and loaded FEAR for the heck of it. Gonna play it with the surround sound cranked up in the dark tonight. Maybe i'll load DOOM 3 also cause its halloween time.....

Play the original... I loved it and it still as good today because it´s unsurpassed AI and thus combat. It just got the basic rights :) I am replaying it now with the Novint Falcon and pistol grip quite spectacular :)

Did that last night :)
Might also install Doom 3....never played it, but have it on the HDD.

I loaded it up, it runs pretty good at 1920 x 1200 for me, but not with 8xQ AA, had to bump down to 4x to keep everything near 60.

I'm getting lighting errors, things aren't casting shadows and what not.

I enjoyed fear, but to me EP was awesome. I loved it even better than the original. PM I stopped playing about 30min in. It just didn't "fit" to me. It was odd because I was hyped up about it from EP and went straight into PM but couldn't get into it.

What an amazing game. I can't play it alone however, I played through the campaign with a friend hotseating.

on a side note...

if you are of legal age, play through this game while tipsy. I had already beaten it once but playing while having a drink(or 7) is extremely fun and scary. I was getting so freaked out (even on the second run through) I just kept looking behind me.

It didn't help that at the time I was alone in my apartment with all the lights off.

Does anyone else have the game slow down on them and become choppy like ten-fifteen minutes in? I'm thinking it's something to do with 64-bit Vista, I know I've heard of this problem before but offhand I'm not finding anything. It really pisses me off though, I really want to play it again.

I've got Ultimate Vista64, played for about 35-40 minutes today and had no probs. Fresh install of the game, and patched to 1.8 (a 588mb patch from 1.0, I might add, geez)

I've got the rig in sig, and I didn't experience any weirdness with slowdown... I did have a lighting issue that seemed to be tied to me forcing V-sync on with the Nvidia CP. Had to fiddle with that to figure it out. It also tanked my framerates, which I don't understand.

Another thing, if I made any changes in the settings while testing various graphics options, I would have to quit and restart the game, because my frame rates would tank.

The tearing in this game is distracting, borderline to the point of pulling me out of focus on the game where I don't want to play it.

Anybody else notice anything like that?

Yeah I tried playing condemned the other day after coming home at like 5am from a party. It wasn't a good idea I was pretty sure I was dead.

Heh, it seems this has been floating around. I, too, just recently installed Fear and both expansion packs and played them back to back. I'm not sure why Perseus got dumped on so badly. It's a fairly decent enough expansion pack that's "more of the same" with a few twists. I love FEAR. I can't wait for FEAR 2: Project Origin next year.

FEAR still has the best shooting mechanics in a FPS IMO, the combat was just satisfying.
