Everyone under 18 post your setup

Can many people say they've been working constantly since 8? :p

ALMOST! I had a paperoute when I was 9 actually, and have had a "job" for all but a total of 6 months between that time and now (I'm 30).

Good for you, work is good, builds character.

All I would have to say for the kiddies out there is if you bust your butt and work hard to earn money and spend/save/invest wisely you can do well for yourself. My girlfriend began working various jobs when she was a little girl, younger than 10 (She was that cute little girl who'd sell you lemon aid or mow your grass...she did both). She's hard worked ever since, not b/c she necessarily has to, but because she enjoys it. While she is an outlier, my girlfriend has done what I encourage you all to do and today she is very much set for life. She invested and spent her money wisely, and with business deals she's taken part in, she has become very, very wealthy all on her own at 22 years old. That's why I'm going to marry her :p

Being [H]ard and loving PC's is not the easiest nor cheapest thing to be enthusiastic about. God knows when I was under 18 I would be on pages like this and dream of one day owning that same kick ass PC that some guy in his 40 or 50's own. One day we all will get that chance, but I'd recommend for you younglings out there, build yourself whatever you can to just get you buy and save and invest your money the best you can. You will definitely reap the benefits from it down the road and possible sooner than you think.

*The gear that I personally owned was a beige box that I rocked out to Delta Force 1 online. This badboy contained a kick ass AMD K6 200MHz with MMX! 6.4GB HDD, and I even bought with my own money (my first big purchase) a Diamond Monster Voodoo ...Then I was lucky at the time, my sisters dick b/f built me a box out of spare parts that was a K7 1400mhz with GeForce 2MX 32meg that could just muster enough mojo to play Counter-Strike...I finally retired that baby last year when I built my first PC.

i started working on computer for money since i was 14. as well as some other jobs that i have due to my skills (such as web programming and now a project called hanger of the future) i have been able to make enough money for my first three years of college without loans. as well as my fraternity dues.

you are not giving these kids much credit. sure, they could be lying to make their e penis nice and big.. but seriously, you guys that are crying about how they get it handed to them are no better. stop being jealous and move on.

if you work hard as a teenager you can make a lot of money. but just shooting them down before you know anything about them just makes them less inspired.

if you have nothing good in this thread then gtfo. let the guys who can post in here post without getting flamed (or flamebaited). and see what discussion they have. a similar thread like this wayyyyyy back ago made me realize i could make money off computers even at a young age.

rather than cry about the kids on this thread. let the kids be inspired by this thread

I think you're getting mad over nothing.. he is giving praise to those working; and also saying they should be grateful for what they have now...

I think you took his post out of context..

But some of the older people on here I'm sure would have loved being a kid while the computer parts we have now are around, because I'm sure when they were teens; computers weren't the cheapest things ever :p

all that I have to say is that any kid who tries and put's fourth good effort to make
something out of him/her self I respect very very much!

There is no problem if parents help their kids out. Im 20, own a company, make good
money, and my dad still to this dad just randomly does things for me and helps me out.
That just fuels my efforts to help him and repay him one day.

As a final note...
Kids, if you want to make something out of yourself you really need to work you @$$ off.
Never stop trying and never say you cant. Any help your parents give you, try your best
to pay back. You got a long road a head of you, get your butt in gear and get ahead of the
curve.

Let's get back on topic, shall we?

This is clean for me.

I'm 16. I've cleaned up the wires behind the tower since I took this pic. I built the computer during the summer of 07. Cheap build.
Specs: Pentium D 805 2.66GHz
2 GB RAM 533mhz
7600gt
80 + 320GB hard drives
22" Acer
HD555s and iPod Classic
Desk is $30 tabletop and $5 legs from the Vika Amon series from Ikea. Very awesome for $50.

I had the same processor as you before and I hated it. It was nice at first, but when I wanted to play CPU intensive games I thought it would cut it... it most certainly did not. Also the fact that there is hardly any support for monitoring temperatures for it T_T.

edit: I also have a similar desk from Ikea. The only problem is, I bought the longest one, and I had CRT monitors before.. so the desk bowed in the middle. But the we just bought an extra leg and put it in the middle and everything is ok hah.

Man how old are you

I'm 17 my man and I've been hustling a long time to get the stuff I wanted as a little kid. Still not quite there. I should add that its not quite the peak of my setup because I sold my macbook pro due mostly to lack of use.

My room. PC is pretty much an emachine with a case and a better PSU (and a 640gb WD):

The EVGA sticker is still on there when I had a C2D setup in the case but since then I've downgraded, substantially :(

My Basement .Hard to see, but: xbox 360 elite, modded xbox, ps2, 14" tv and some z5500's:
Photo0126.jpg

yes, Im a very messy and unorganized person but at least I know where everything is :p

Why punish the xbox with a frickin' 14" tv? How can you even see what's going on? You can find a 30-40 inch CRT for under $100 on your local craigslist, seems like a solid investment to go along with the $400 xbox...

that thing has taken too many falls off dressers and drops when getting carried, that it deserves the spot where it is. Not gonna buy a new tv until it breaks.

I sit about 4 feet from it so seeing stuff isn't a problem

Wow, I started browsing this thread to see what the youngblood build these days and I see more posts from older people venting than posts about rigs owned by youths.

Of course I can't talk since my computer science days in high school were before PC's existed when there were card punchers in class. I guess I am part of the problem.

Maybe I can say the "You think you had it hard....I remember when there were a hundred of us living in a shoebox in the middle of the street!*" sort of line. I have become my parent. :p

*BTW the quote is from Monty Python just to give proper credit.

And just to keep it on topic, there are some really nice setups here. Pretty impressive.

Edit: Oh yeah and just to keep things in perspective, for those who say "I only had a PC with a floppy", remember the old Apple II floppy disk players costed a mere...$500.00!!! when they first came out. Can buy a whole PS3 with one floppy player. Ok I will shut up now.

Can i post the stuff ive got now? it hasnt changed since i turned 18....

ALl i can say is that everything ive got is literally a result of very long summers and winter and spring breaks with lots and lots of work. instead of partying it up andhaving fun during thanksgiving, winter, and spring break i would just put in full 40 hour weeks since thats the legal limit in california.

I guess so. Only you though.

Everything you see is in the sig. The keyboard was from the trash next to a Pentium w/ Win95. Much better then your average off the shelf keyboard... actually clicks when you type - much better then those gooey feeling keyboards of today. Would love to buy a IBM Model M sometime too.

Yes, I need to clean some of that dust out sometime :p

This has all been bought will my own money.

I've saved up $730 right now, and I still have 600-900 in the bank.

Anything else with value? Got a Hyundai Elantra 2001 w/ almost 100k miles from my Dad for free (we'll both be drivers of it though), and I'm going to have to pay the $500/6month insurance on it.

Originally I spent $1100 for that case, PSU, optical drive, harddrives, CPU, hsf, ATI x1650 pro, ASRock motherboard, and some crappy Geil 2x1GB DDR2 667 way back in March 2007.

I sold those last bits and used the money to buy the IP35 Pro, 8800GTS 512, and Corsair 2x1GB in Feburary of 2008. I then step-uped to the 9800GTX (Step up was running out and there were no other better cards out yet, the step up was pretty much free too).

I don't plan on upgrading... it plays TF2 maxed out at 1920x1200 at 60fps - all that really matters. I'm looking forward for Farcry 2 and GTA4 for the PC.

Little bit different than before, eh?

Photo0133.jpg

^ PC is hidden behind the door on the left side of the desk

do you think it might get a little hot in their with the case in the cabneit? Might want to look into a fan on the door or something

It's only an emachine with a bettter PSU and a case so I don't care if it dies, hoenstly. All it's used for is browsing and music so if/when it dies, I can cheapily replace it

ah, ok. That works.

Sweet looking monitor BTW!

my setup has been here since I was 16. I will post a pic later.
I got the LCD When I was 18 and my monitor was a 30" at age 18 (First year university turned 18).
Only thing that has changed is my calibre of box, the ps3 and wii.
I've had my 360 since 05, same with my TV and everything else. I'm 21 now.
I firmly believe I have this showdown won. SERIOUSLY.

Good stuff. ^^ I got kicked out when I was 16, got into college, now I'm working 20 hrs a week @ 18/hr with a web design on the side. I pay for everything (rent, insurance, etc etc, recently spent a good 500 on new glasses/contacts -.-;) and I still have enough spending money at times for those moments of splurgefests! ^^ But yea, America is really a place where if you got the motive, you can do whatever you want. An old Chinese saying that my parents have beaten into me is that a man not fear being poor, but fear having no motivation. In China, parents carry their children to probably 25 or so.

I'll post mine when I have it setup just right. Might be getting a partime job soon to get out of the house. I do my schooling online here at home so I don't get out much. 14,btw. So I'll some spare cash to upgrade my setup.

Meh, When I was that age I worked hard for what I had (that was considered 1337 back then). Back when the PIII was still considered good, lol.

This thread is depressing, Enjoy the rent free living while you can!
