Starting World Of Warcraft!

AoC hasn't proven it can touch on anything wow has done. and as much as i wish it could, will not replace it

Ignorant a little?

AoC hasn't proven that it can't, either. AoC is still "new." It's also the next generation game with far more gameplay elements than WoW.

Sooner or later WoW will be dethroned as the number one played MMO. Whether AoC will be the game to dethrone it remains to be seen with time.

I know many a gamer that has transitioned from WoW to AoC.

Thats great, however its a different game once you level cap. Instead of leveling and exploring it becomes a grind for gear.
Isn't this true of most, if not all, MMOs? Your character's level progression is over, now it's time to prepare him/her for more difficult challenges.

Yes, however I was responding the previous poster's claim that the game is still lots of fun without having to spend a large chunk of time. Which is true at a low level in any MMORPG. However when you get to the part where a large time investment is required, you have wasted a lot of time as it is and you have plateaued. Although not specific to WoW, I found WoW more addicting than any other MMO I played.

If you're looking to play WoW for the first time ever, I'd say definitely go ahead and do it... It really is a game that has defined a generation as far as the PC gaming industry is concerned, and it would be a shame to not even have dabbled in the phenomenon that is(was?) WoW.

As far as AoC goes, I was planning on being one of those people that left WoW for AoC. I purchased AoC on release day, and started playing (Priest of Mitra). For some reason that I can't quite put my finger on, this game just doesn't have the IT factor for me. I remember when I first started playing WoW years ago, I couldn't put it down. AoC just doesn't have the same effect on me... I'll play for a little, get bored, and log back into WoW. Personally, there's nothing about AoC that screams "coooome to meeee. You MUST play me!"

Granted, AoC is still brand spanking new and I'm sure it will improve significantly over the next few months, but as of recently I have cancelled my subscription to AoC and resubscribed to WoW.

I don't know whether or not I will give AoC another shot, as WAR should be coming out some time in September-December (<3 daoc).

I'm aware. how is anything I said ignorant. AoC does not have the marketing/brand driven userbase that WoW had. I hope a game can dethrone wow. maybe warhammer.

I apologize for calling you ignorant. I guess these threads tend to get me slightly over excited. To me it just came off as ignorant.

Anyway, I hope WoW gets dethroned too. MMOs thrive with subscriptions. I figure the sooner people start leaving WoW in droves, the sooner other/newer MMOs can prosper. It'll be interesting to see how AoC continues to evolve as WAR comes out.

i really dont think warhammer can afford to have the engine that AoC does. if its as intensive computer wise, they will miss out on a large userbase. Also If WoW makes some much needed changes, they can keep alot of thier userbase too. Its anyones game

Sorry to bring back an old thread, I got a stupid question.

Were do you see you EXP needed for the next level?

just do yourself a favor and roll horde.... if you go down the alliance path you'll be surrounded by 12-17 year olds constantly. if you're into that, pedophile *cough*, then roll ally.

There is a thin bar above the default action bar at the bottom of the screen. There is also an option in the settings to display the exact amount you have/needed for the next level.

I know this is an old thread, but since someone else dug it up I just had to point out how ironic this statement was. yes, many many MANY people left wow at aoc's release, within a month the vast majority of them went back to wow.

It should be in the options under "Interface". Not at home atm so I can't check to be certain.

I just quit the World and it feels great! As others have said before, don't do it because your soul will belong to Blizz.

But alas, I am too late as you have already started sailing into the abyss.

Try out the 'lock!! Major fun there and go affliction when leveling.

If you are going for the long haul then you might consider rolling a tank or a healer as those are always in demand for instances/raids.

dude totally give the game a try. you only have to sell your soul if you join a big raiding guild. just run solo...the questing and rpg element of the game are top notch. the world is huge and engrossing....ignore all of the negative comments about getting addicted etc. if you're just looking for a cool rpg with great atmosphere, top notch production and the option to play with other peeps if you want then this game is for you...i played it for a year and for the most part solo'd to 60 with an undead shadow priest.

i might add i had some friends that played which made it cool but none of us really got into the endgame crap.....too much bs.

all in all great game.

WoW is one of the best games ever made. It is unreal how big and detailed it is. It has a lot of depth and a lot of content.

The real fun is in starting out as a total wimp and then adventuring into more and more hostile territory--all the while becoming more and more powerful.

My suggestions are

1. Take advantage of the "rested" feature. When you log off of the game, you accumulate rest points. You get more points if you log off in a major city or an inn. When you come back to the game, you will get twice the experience points for every rested kill. So for example, if you rest your character for a week, and log in that weekend, you will have a weeks worth of 2x experience to help you catch up.

2. Pace yourself. It is hopeless to try and catch up. Just enjoy exploring the areas at your level. Don't let higher level players or friends rush you through the game.

3. Pay attention to professions. Each character you roll can choose two professions. Don't ignore this part of the game, because later in the game professions can be an essential source of currency for things like flying mounts and even can help you craft essential equipment. You must level your professions over time.

4. Find a populated server.

5, Think long term. WoW is the type of game that you can play on and off for a very long time. It is a great filler when there are no good new releases or you get bored with your other games.

6. Talk to the other players at lower levels: Make an effort to make friends in the game. Be helpful and courteous.

One thing to add here is that you don't get caught up in leveling your professions too fast. Leatherworking and Alchemy are probably these easiest, and cheapest, as long as you have skinning or herbalism. Enchanting and Jewelcrafting can get quite expensive and those two are usually a good choice for after you hit lvl 70 and have your epic flier. My brother picked up jewelcrafting at lvl 60 and spent a huge amount of gold to level it.

Also, if you are worried about gold then just pick two gathering professions like skinning, mining or herbalism. You will not be able to make anything but you can sell the stuff you gather on the auction house.

Hunters are probably the best class for any new player to start out as.

Hunters are go and go and go....2 problems with hunters and new players.
Pet training...all over the damn world taming to learn new skills for your pet.
OUT OF AMMO this is a bitch

druid is pretty easy once you get to 20
mage can go forever...makes own food and water
prot pally 1-70 here....GOD I will never do that again. never dies but 8dps is a bummer
warlock goes and goes just like hunter...gold to train new pet skills not all over the world to get new ones and he doesn't run out of ammo...free mounts too
