Hi all, need some advice,I am concidering one or the other, the 9800 X2 is coming down in price and was my first choice, but I thought I would ask what you guys think,is the 280 GTX worth the extra cash?
I already got a P5Q-Deluxe with a Q6600,now I need to decide on a card....Thanks

If you're gaming with that 22" in your sig, I'd recommend a GTX 260. Unless you play Crysis a lot, at that resolution you'd be CPU limited on most games with a 280.

I am assuming you have done your research on the GTX 2xx vs ATI 4xxx series. I have read people that have done their EVGA setup from a 9800 X2 to a 280 GTX, notice a much "smoother" gameplay compared to their old 9800 X2. I also have a GTX 280 GTX and loving it :)

easily the GTX280, the GTX280, 260 and the Radeon 4870 pretty much handle that card.

I have owned both. and I can say that for pure frame rates, the 9800gx2 in almost all the games i played (age of conan, vanguard, lord of the ring online, crysis) will give a slightly higher number than the 280gtx. However, it has a lot of microstutter so the 280gtx gives a much smoother game play. When the 280gtx is telling you 30-40fps, 90% of the time that is the fps you will get throughout. With the 9800gx2 every 10 seconds or so you would go 30fps to 10-15fps for a few seconds. Very annoying. However, for games where you always get above 50-60 fps, there is no difference between the two and if you were to run fraps, you would see the 9800gx2 giving higher fps than the 280gtx (Wow at 1920x1200 at max settings for example... lol).

Am looking to get a new card as well.. so it sounds like the GTX280 is beter than the 9800gx2. What makes these different? Can you SLI the GTX280? I've been a little out of the building for a while...

I got the 280,it lasted 3 days before it died on me,I am sure EVGA will take care of it,but pretty sad deal..
