...obviously didn't get one with a student discounted MacBook pro :D
The touch interface is so excellent. Definitely no gimmick. I understand the want for physical buttons, but I wanted this so I could listen to music while browsing the net without the battery life of a laptop.

You did, or did not get one with your student discounted macbook pro? You said didn't, but later it sounds like you own one.

Up until march '08 I disliked Apple and all of their products, especially iPods. After I got my MacBook I opened up to them and love all of their products still except iPods. The wheel is a cool idea, but it is hard to use for me and hurts my thunb. However, the iPod Touch is a good idea I'd say. There is no wheel, yet there is still a very nice interface and a good player. I will probably be getting an iPod touch 8GB with my iMac in early september, even though I'll be getting an iPhone. I just wish they weren't so damn expensive! I'd totally pay $400-500 for a 64GB+ model though.

I really like my iPod Touch. I think I might buy a 3G iPhone, but that's still up in the air.

The Remote App from Apple is awesome. I just started using it today, I have to say, I'm impressed. The $9.95 software download is worth it, maybe even just for this.

Is there like an app that can figure out how much money I'm making at my job if I put in the hours? I need to keep track.

Off topic but... Command + Space to enter spotlight. Then enter {hours] * [pay per hour]. In the search results will be the amount of money you will earn for working that many hours for that much pay per hour. Enjoy. If you want to keep track overtime you should setup a spreadsheet. One column should be the date, second hours, third pay/hour and fourth should be = hour_column * pay_column

I absolutely love my iTouch, I have no idea what I did before it, it's absolutely the best Mp3 player ever. And, as an extra bonus, it really makes a very good PDA of sorts

Figure out how much you earn each hour, and multiply it by how many hours you work

You dont need an ipod touch to do that (maybe not even a calculator, gasp)

I obviously can do that, I want to keep record of how many hours I work and how much money I make so my boss (my uncle, who is forgetful) doesn't try to low ball me and forget he owes me $150. Just for my own record.

Thats what I was looking for, some sort of spreadsheet program for the Touch.

I'm thinking of getting an ipod touch. An iphone would be nice but i'm not paying $70/month. The touch gives me most everything I want. And the app store.

And I need to replace my aging pocket pc anyways.

I enjoy my touch. The thing that makes/breaks the touch is availability of free wifi if you ask me. I have it made because im on a college campus and it is everywhere. However, if you don't have it, it would simply be a more expensive, fancier interfaced, smaller sized ipod.

Yeah. If you don't have wi-fi, there is no justification IMO.

lol :)

I had a touch for a few months.....but in the end I always had my laptop with my anyway, so I sold it and now I just use a shuffle for music....

I love my iPod Touch especially with the 2.0 update. It is the perfect upgrade from my 2nd Gen iPod nano. The only thing that pisses me off is the lack of support for the Apple Radio Remote. I could care less about the radio functions but I used the remote part every time I went jogging, walked my bloodhound, or mowed the lawn. It really pisses me off that Apple removed support for such a useful Apple branded accessory, especially since the Touch lacks physical buttons so it is impossible to skip songs or adjust volume without pulling out of your pocket.

I have both the iPod Touch and a 30GB iPod Video. I use the 30 gig'r in my car and when I'm mowing lawns (I do it part time) so that I don't get the iPod Touch messed up. Plus obviously the iPod Video has more space which makes it more ideal for portable music storage.

I'm installing the v2 update to the Touch as I type this out. I can't wait to check out the new apps. I mostly use my Touch for PDA functions and video but it'll be cool to have some games on it also.

This is why I hate my college. They're strictly 802.11a...see the problem here?

I love mine I use it every day from in the car jogging to sitting at my desk... im thinking about getting an iPhone 3g though

I have a feeling that they're dumping all the iPod Touches with this promotion in order to release a new one in the fall--they did that with the iPod Nanos last year.

I've wanted one for a while--but I'm going to hold out to see what happens--GPS (ala the 3G) on the iPod Touch would be VERY nice, indeed.

I love my touch, its my ghetto in-car touch screen. Although, after the 2.0 update, moving between songs (by clicking next) feels a bit slow and sketchy. There have been reports that the 2.0 firmware contains a memory leak which is causing it. I sure hope they get it fixed because it doesn't feel snappy anymore. It feels sluggish to load.

I love mine, got a 32gb bad boy that works out great.

My college is all wifi so I can use it wherever I am, plus around the home, plus at airports when I travel ;)

Only thing I wish it had was hard buttons for the volume

Please dont call it an iTouch! Argg that bugs me. Its an iPod Touch or a Touch, not iTouch!

Wow. Where do you go? You should post it here so fellow H'ers can avoid! hah

a does have some advantages, its just a pain as most companies only use the b/g standard in their products.

It's a small private college in upstate NY. The funny thing is, ALL our hardware is compatible with b and g. The network department, for whatever reason, simply will not enable it. I wouldn't even care if 95% of the campus is covered in A, which it is, and only them main areas supported G. But nope, A only. Not to mention, it's fucking slow ass network. We have about 25 down, yet with all the packet filtering going on, you can't even join a ventrilo server without lagging like ass.

It might be some other equipment they are running or that a nearby such and such is running that makes it better to use the 5ghz band vs. the 2.4ghz band. The 2.4ghz band is getting more and more crowded these days.

Lag can also come from the hundreds and hundreds of people all using the web at once, even on a 25mb line. We have a 40mb line and they just had to upgrade to a 50mb line cause of lag issues with the amount of usage.

I also love my iTouch, I use it whilst at my girlfriends house (over wifi) to do stuff on my computer using TouchPadPro (http://www.touchpadpro.com/)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=trMtetn-SyU <---- Check it out! (this isn't me)

I'm really happy with mine & got the 16GB version, only bad thing about it is how easilly the back gets scratched (like other ipods), the screen on the other hand is really resilient to scratches (as shown on loads of youtube videos).

The price difference isn't too much higher for the 16 than the 8GB, so for anyone considering which to get I'd definately go for the 16. I still fill it up so easilly as I have about 60GB of music but for now, it's fine.

I really WANT to like the touch, but I'm just not very impressed with the on-screen typing. The options in the calendar are also pretty poor - I want something that is as maleable as a decade-old Palm OS, at the very least. Everytime I see a touch in a store I use it some more, to see if I can put up with its weaknesses, and each time I put it back and walk away.

Maybe the a new version of the firmware will be released so that the programs are at least as useful as they ought to be.

Its not a PDA or Pocket PC replacement, it is still mostly a Music player IMO ;)

That or they are getting ready to dump the 8gb and just slide the models down (16gb comes to 8gb price point, 32gb to 16gb, etc.)

I just wish it had more capacity. I have a classic 160gb that is over half full. With emails and web surfing added on, I figure it would be maxed out too soon!

this might not be the right thread for this, but how does the iTouch do as a replacement for a Palm device?

I have absolutely no interest in an iTouch as an MP3 player -- I'm interested in it strictly as a PDA.

As far as I can tell, they don't have the same calendaring options, which for me is the deal breaker.

ipod touch is sweet. jail broken that is. i managed to get a iphone a few months ago with no contract, the deal was posted in hot deals and sold my touch. I love some of apple's designs, like the accelerometer, touch screen interface thats actually responsive.

when it's time to buy a laptop, I'm for sure buying a apple.

I know a lo of people that took advantage of that deal! They got the macbooks for $100 of each model, and an 8GB iPod touch! Some of them even sell it for $200 and get the mac for $300 off. Great deal.

And, Apple has refurbished iPod touches for $100 off each size. Some people don't like refurbished, but my iPod classic was refurbished and worked perfectly! Apple has great refurbished products.

However, there are so many iTouchs for sale, it sucks for people like me that sold their iPod touch to buy a new iPhone. I bought my 8GB iTouch in May, with a case and update for $360, sold it yesterday for $180. :( Peopel are selling unopened 8GBs for $200 shipped. Oh well..

new touch comming out in mid-september and new nano's also...and probably updates to their other lines of ipod. i lost my nano in china this summer so i was looking forward to getting a touch, so now i'm just gonna sit tight and wait for the new one. supposedly it's going to be around 200 dollars according to Engadgets. i want the touch just for the wifi browser...if not i would get a classic.

some retail stores are already marking the current ipod as unavailable...usually a sign for new releases.

That's merely a rumour at this point in time.

I swore that I'd never buy an ipod - ever (I said that about the Mac as well and snagged a Mini back in February). I purchased a Zen W last year and have really enjoyed it.

I bought, after fighting with myself for months, an 8 gig ipod Touch several weeks ago and there is no turning back. I love the touch screen, how responsive it is but . . . I still hate iTunes as an interface. Having to drop entire playlists at a time instead of dropping what I want through a drag and drop interface is kinda painful.

One of the apps I really appreciate is the remote. The tunes get kicked on the mac mini almost evey morning. The other app that gets used a great deal is Stanza though I have found several ebooks that will crash out the program.

Having pwned the unit - I've got a wider variety of software and games available as well.

The 2.0.1 update, though I'm not sure what the reason for it was, toasted my calendar and contacts info. That'll teach me a lesson, eh?

With all the tinkering I've been doing with it, I probably should have spent the money and snagged a 32 gig - but how was I to know I'd enjoy the unit this much?

well i finally cracked and bought a 32GB ipod Touch and have to say I`m really liking it so far

only reason i bought it is for the wifi on my trip to europe but a few tunes or vids will come in handy for those long train trips

i was gonna buy a cell phone instead but being in canada i thought it would be better to eat for a year or two instead of paying for a monthly voice/data plan :D
