I've been pondering for the last few weeks on what x48 board to get. I have narrowed it down to a few:

  • Asus Rampage Formula
  • DFI LP LT X48-T2R
I am very familar with Asus' BIOS settings (for the most part), so I am thinking the DFI board will be a bit of a challange. But I am all up to it.

I will probably be using my ol' E6850 and then maybe upgrade to a Quad later on.

Oh, and yes I will be getting a couple of ATI cards and crossfiring them. :)

*D'Oh!*

I knew I forgot someone! Include whichever one is better.

I am just looking for a board that overclocks well and has very good customer support (Asus --> lol).

I vote for the Rampage myself! Doh, I already did...

Seriously tho... it's very good, with more options than you can beat with a stick.

Either one, along with the highend gigabyte are killer boards. I'd go with the DFI if you want good/fast customer service(for me Asus has always been good, just slowwwwww).

Well I took the plunge and got a DFI LT X48-T2R. The rampage was a little more, but I couldn't pass up on the board layout on the LT.

How do you like it? I've got the X38 LT and I'm really happy with it, glad I decided not to go with Asus this time.

Opps, I meant to say I had just ordered it. :embarrassed:

But I definitely agree with you, I wanted to try a different manufacturer will all the bells and whistles but with better support and a more affordable pricetag.

I was looking into the rampage myself but then got nervous when asus took all of the links off their support site. I had to use google to find it. The pages are still there you just can't get there throught the web site links.

Now I'm looking for another board in the "under $300" category.

Nah, they are still there, they can build hardware but not websites!

You select the rampage from a search then you can select one option... e.g. bios.
If you click any other option after that you just get the menu tree repeating.

You have to close the bloody page and do it all over again... this time select a different option... e.g "all" or "latest" whatever.

I've never seen a worse site really...

I just did the same thing. Ordered mine from Newegg yesterday. Going to have a very similar setup to you. I have a Q6600 and 2 4850s going in it. Should be able to play AoC decently.

could you explain your reasoning on going with dfi?

I like a challenge. I also liked the overall layout/design of the board.

Get a Gigabyte x48-DQ6. great board.

I will probably do that if this board ever dies on me. I just got my LT today, so I'm hoping it will work out fine. I also took a risk and got it cheap through Newegg's Open Box policy. Luckily everything is here (except thermal paste but I have some already).

I am in the same boat as you. However I have used both DFI and Asus. I have gotten the same overclock results with both as well. Last DFI I had was back in the NF4 days...Ultra-d, NF4 UT sli-d or whatever it was.

I currently have a P5K Deluxe which for some reason will not recognise my Q9550 ES. I have the latest bios 812; still a no go. The cpu runs fine, but cannot tell what the cpu is. So I am thinking of getting an X48 and might go x-fire. have 1 4850 on the way. will have to wait for another good deal for a second, or may try the 4870x2.

so back on topic; I am not sure which one I should get; I need to be able to overclock as much as possible. I will be running a Vendetta 2 till I get my water parts.

Looks like most recommend the Rampage, but a few for DFI; both with great results. Please help and sorry to hijack this thread.
