Am I the only person who feels that snake should have been killed off? Don't get me wrong -- I loved the entire game and ending, but a part of me feels as though snake deserves something better. I felt he should have been truly immortalized in the gaming world by going out guns fucking blazing doing something incredible.

The whole 'I'm just gonna wait around to die' thing just doesn't seem all that bad-ass to me. Snake's a bad-ass motherfucker, and deserved going out in bad-ass motherfucker style IMO.

Anyone?

The last section( crawling through the corridor with that microwave stuff) and the final fight with liquid with the 5.1 sound cranked up was ultimate bad ass Mofo Standards, I wasnt on the edge of my seat i didnt even notice i was stood up lol. I see where your coming from but i just need the slightest hope of some other outing wether its a search for reverse aging or summats i dont know, but the guy deserves to chill out dont you think!?

Snake's had a hard life. I think he deserves a chance to rest. And I think he established pretty clearly that he's still a badass by getting getting cooked in a giant microwave, being ambushed by a huge swarm of robots, then finally getting beaten repeatedly in the face by Liquid, and still walking away on his own two feet, all while incubating not one but TWO variants of FOXDIE, accelerated aging, and dependency on a nanomachine supression drug that stopped working just when he needed it most.

He's like Bruce Willis in a Die Hard movie, only a hell of a lot tougher.

Yea I suppose I somewhat agree, but at the same time I just have this itch knowing that the series could possibly continue and I am somewhat nervous about that. I can't imagine a MGS title without Hideo, you know?

i was hoping he'd go out in a blaze of glory. something like he's left on shadow moses while i nuke goes off. or ocelet putting a bullet right through the back of his head or something. Oh well. Hopefully in some capacity he's in mgs 5....staring ninja raiden

You can imagine a Metal Gear without Hideo, it's called Metal Gear Snake's Revenge. Which was the biggest mistake by Konami because it had nothing or very little to do with Metal Gear story and it was terrible.

He isn't Tony Montana.

I like the choice of giving him a peaceful end... and he'll be spending it with Sunny and Otacon, to boot. :)

i thought the ending was pretty good. when i thought he really shot himself, i sorta pitied snake cause all he wanted was rest and left alone like the brief moments he had in alaska till he was called off to shadow moses. when it showed him still trembling and the long chat with big boss, it was fitting that someone equal or even greater told snake, your done, take the rest you deserve. i thought that was great and snake can finally get the rest and peace he wanted after 10 years of more combat (after shadow moses). i think after a few years in service, people would like some rest rather putting a bullet in the head.

The fact that at the end, Otacon and Sunny are with Snake means that Hideo wanted to leave possibilites for him. Think about it.

Who are the 2 smartest people that would have any chance at saving Snake? And at the end, having them be around him? Sunny is brilliant, she could have an idea on how to counteract the foxdie. Otacon would help. Snake would get his strength back, and a new lease on life. A villain would emerge, and snakes back in action, lol.

at the very least, they could find a way to stop his rapid aging and he could be a secondary or tertiary character in future metal gear games. I just DOUBT that Otacon and Sunny would stand by and let Snake die without trying to think of something. Anyway, There are much more unbelievable things that have happened in the metal gear series! I remain optimistic!

That's a pretty good point damonposey. It also fits that the AI-eating worm that Sunny helped complete is called FOXALIVE. Subtle hint?

The twist second ending almost ruined the game for me.

Almost.

Snake had to die, he had to sacrifice himself for humanity, it was the perfect way to end the series. Having him appear to do that, rolling credits, then suddenly saying "gotcha!" and rolling into one more interminable exposition scene leaving Snake alive was a moment of artistic weakness and shameless self-indulgence on Kojima's part IMHO.

Oh well. Still one of the best games I've ever played, hands down. :)

I don't see how people dislike the extra ending. I thought meeting that special someone and really figuring out everything that went on with the patriots was really cool.

Killing yourself is the pussy way out of life.

he wouldn't have been killing himself to run from something he's killing (aka sacrificing) himself to save humanity. his enitre life he's been trying to stop WMD's, now he's become one.

Yeah that's true. I think he would have though because didn't Big Boss shoot his gun away? I think snake was going too but boss stopped him becuase he knew snake wasn't going to die from the mutated nano's anymore.
