So I'm selling my desktop and moving over to a laptop. Been wanting to make this move because I hate being tethered to a desk and would like to be able to carry my system to other places for regular lanning.

Been looking for one I can carry around and not be too unwieldy, so preferably a 14-15" model.

My main train of thought here is to find a laptop with a 8600GT or 9500GS video card in it so that I can get some fair gaming in on it.

I've been eying this ASUS F8 a lot, but don't wanna bite just yet till i get some opinions.

Any recommendations for other laptops for around the same price? Is this a reasonable time to buy a laptop, or are new things just on the brink of commin out?

Thanks guys :D

EDIT: holy crap I've been here 4 years. Whee back to lerking another 4! :p

I have a 17" with a 8800GTS. I will admit, it's a little unwieldy, but the gaming on it is top notch, and I really do enjoy the 17" screen. I am kind of in the same boat as you. I wanted to be tethered to my computer, I take it to work every night. But seeing as how it was replacing my desktop, I wanted something beefy enough to actually replace it.

The only thing on the bring of coming out are new intel processors and 98xx mobile cards.

They've got a 15.4" that has all the power of a desktop. I've got a 17" made by them, and I've been nothing but satisfied. The only problem I had was that the optical drive didn't work when I got it (seemed to be damaged during shipping). They overnighted me a replacement drive, and it's been perfect ever since. They also offer upgrade trade-in credit with the warranty, so it will be cheaper in the long run to have an updated laptop than it would be to buy a new one down the road

Jesus, those laptops are monsters. But too far out of my price range :(

Trying to keep this all under $1300

I'm going to be paying $2500 for my pcmicroworks edge...i got 500 off for memorial day. Which is much less than the alienware m15x or whatever it is.
