As the title states when is it coming out? its 2008 and were still using the one from 2006.

It's already in development and Futuremark has banners and shit all over the place on their site for it last I checked. I don't know when it'll be released. Don't really care.

Finally when review sites were beginning to forget 3dMark..they'll release new one. Funny how they have ATi-brand textures here and there in this test program..it really makes this software more reliable and honest.

It's called 3DMark Vantage. Release date is unknown. It's DX10-only, it looks very pretty, and like all 3DMark products, it will probably be completely useless as a benchmark.

Edit: Here is a video of a really pretentious-sounding guy explaining it and showing some "gameplay".

Last I read, it's going to be DX10 only.

AKA, useless.

Could you please think before you edit stupid shit into your posts?

Each 3DMark is designed to test a specific version of DirectX. If you want to test DirectX 9, thats what 3DMark 2006 is for. Why the fuck would they make a DX9 and DX10 version of 3DMark Vantage?

3DMark2001 is for DX7.
3DMark2003 is for DX8.
3DMark05/06 is for DX9.
3DMarkVantage is for DX10.

All of the 3DMarks have required you to have the DirectX version they were designed for. Your hardware didn't have to have all the features, but it had to be minimally compatible with that DirectX version.

Obviously for Vantage, it will require that you have DirectX 10 installed, but not a DirectX 10 card. So whats the problem here? That you can't run it on your 7 year old operating system?

3DMark Vantage is no more useless than any other 3DMark (they are all pretty useless, IMHO), so think before you post stupid trolling shit like that.

duh.. if you've got crappy 2006 hardware use the crappy 2006 3dmark.. or upgrade.. the games i play most atm are DX10 so :p i'd only be interested in a DX10 3dmark score.. unless i was a jealous ATi user with their sub-par DX10 performance loss over DX9.. but who would be dumb enough to buy one of those cards... ahoy mateys abandon ship

This is more of a Vista issue than a hardware issue.
If DX10 were available for Windows XP, I'd have no problem with a DX10-only 3dmark.

Futuremark cant do anything about that, and they've already made TWO DX9 benchmarks, so what do you expect? Sorry but if you choose to use a 7 year old operating system, you shouldn't expect to be able to run every peice of software that comes out.

03 was DX9... mostly DX8, but enough of the score was DX9 that a high end DX8 card would score only slightly better than my 64 bit 5200.

Ah, I'll be looking forward to playing the next 3DMark!

Agreed, it's my favorite game!

But aren't these synthetic benchmarks such as 3Dmark not as reliable as they were once thought to be? I mean, didnt the 2900xt beat the 8800gtx in 3dmark?

Not only that, but people post their 3dmark scores with the CPU score included, which has an even larger tendency to skew results. I hope for Vantage the two scores are clearly seperated, or they get rid of the CPU test altogether. Leave CPU tests for CPU benchmarks.
