I.E. 7 doesnt delete temp files anymore??

Whenever i go to delete temporary internet files and choose to delete them, internet explorer doesnt have the little animation that shows its deleting them. I Dont believe they are actually getting deleted. Does anyone know why it would suddenly stop showing the animation?

It's been my experience that IE7 is, at best, highly unreliable. I've had similar problems (not being able to clear the cache) with IE 7 (as well as a ton of other problems). I never found a solution that didn't involve verifying everything manually so I stopped using it.

I say if you don't have to use IE make the switch to firefox 3.

Speaking of IE7 issues and switching to Firefox, how well does Firefox run in Vista 64 bit? I just made the switch and I haven't decided which browswer and email client to load up with my junk yet. Last time I tried Windows Mail I really liked that it filtered the junk mail into a seperate folder that I could go through later.

You could be on a machine that's simply so fast it deletes the contents of the Temporary Internet Files folder - I've seen it happen - before you even notice. Some hardware is so fast nowadays (7200 rpm large buffer hard drives, or Raptors, tied to dual or quad core processors with fast RAM too) that the deletion process of all those tiny files happens before the animation even gets a chance to load.

You can always change Explorer's options to show hidden system folders and go into the Documents and Settings profile (this is for XP, under Vista it would be under \Users as the layout is a bit different) and check the Temporary Internet Files folder to see what's still in it. Most of the time, just deleting the cache will leave only the cookies in that folder; as you're probably aware, there is a button-option to just delete everything which would remove the cookies as well.

I keep my IE7 cache (I use IE7Pro, same thing internally) set to 225MB so it'll never grow to be excessively large, and 225MB is a ton of space for the hundreds and thousands of tiny small files that get cached from surfing the web. Whenever I do a delete pass, it usually takes 2-3 seconds tops to delete the entire thing. Most of the time I see the "deleting" animation appear for like, a tenth of a second then it's gone - and so are the files.

If you're that concerned with deleting them properly, go get CCleaner and let it do a cleanup pass. More thorough, in many respects.

ie7 is fine, this is the first time its ever done anything weird. And i do have firefox as well. I use both.

Why on EARTH would you post this in the OS subforum?? I just cleared my temp files in IE and it seemed to go fine... But I only use IE to test my webapp, its firefox for normal browsing

Just what I thought too.

If you do it frequently, you don't notice at all. If you let them build up over a month, it might take it a few seconds.


What I'd do is like suggested and view the folder locations after visiting some websites. View the temp files folder, delete your files from IE7, then go back to the folder to see if your files are removed.

Cause its the most fitting forum? =/ Theres no "ie7" forum.

I figured it out my friends I had "Empty internet explorer temporary files when browser is closed" Or something like that checked in advanced settings. Thats why it never seemd to be deleting to me because it was always deleted when i closed IE.
