I don't play with Mac's much, but being in the support field I get asked questions all the time. What's the cheapest option for a machine that can run leopard? i want to set one up and play around with it.

Legally yes a mac mini, but there are images that run in Vmware. I will not post links or other info though.

an intel mini or three would probably be your best bet depending on what you're looking to learn about

That would be just painful to use. Mac Mini's can be had for 300-400 used.

Actually for only having 192MB ram it runs pretty amazingly. Not that it's very usable. I'm sure when my ram comes in it'll be much snappier.

Plus these things are VERY easily upgradable. Throw in a used $50 video card and a used dual core processor and you're good to go!

OC'd 1.25 GHz G4 mini w/ 1GB ram and 120GB HDD FTW

not exactly cheapest after upgrades, but that's my server :p

Yeah. that can't be good.

I'm sure apple's going to sue the pants off of them.

or find someone with a nice one with a warranty :)

/sorry for tooting my own horn
//and the potential threadjack

That's essentially a hackintosh that someone else assembles for you. Apart from breaking the EULA, I'd never buy one because I'd like security updates and other bug fixes when they are available, not when the hacker community happens to find a way around it.

Will almost certainly not survive anyway. Apple has plenty of lawyers ready for shit like this.

i think psystar and their "open computer" is pretty smart and i would like to see how long it takes apple to shut them down

but if ur looking for osx on the cheap id go with a macbook just cuz its got everything u need, its cheap and if u dont like it then u have a great windows/linux machine that looks amazing

Agreements are not valid before the box is opened. Apple has nothing to sue them for. And its in no way illegal for them to sell hardware tested for OSX compatibility.

um guys!

I just purchased 1GB of ram for $48, a USB 2.0 card for $19, and an 256MB Geforce 6200 AGP for my mac (it needs to be flashed, but it'll work) for $51. Shipping is included in all of those. That raises the price of my mac from $10.51 to $128.51.

Now to sit and wait and find a good deal on a used dualprocessor G4 upgrade on ebay.

My buddy has a Quad 2.5Ghz G5 and it feels downright old compared to my lowly T2500 2.0Ghz Intel iMac, so dont get your hopes up.

The computer is 8 years old, I'm suprised this thing even runs OSX at all. I'm just excited it runs.
