What is it?
Is it the EIZO
FlexScan SX3031W
Or the Dell 3008
Or what?

What's your pricerange? What's your primary use of this monitor? Gaming? Photo editing? Watching HD movies?

Price range is hard to tell.

Use of the screen - Games,Programming, Desktop use (Internet, mail and so on), and yes sometimes video

What do you say?

Dell 3007 WFP-HC, the 3008 has massive input lag and since you don't need this as a TV the lack of inputs for the 3007 shouldn't be a problem. Its just an all round better panel and cheap as well, might be hard to find though.

Great monitor with a very hefty pricetag. This is common among Eizo brand lcds. It is suited for graphic artists. It is not ideal for gaming and fast motion though it does decent in this area. It does show signs of blurring with fast motion displayed on this lcd. I would say as far as an all arounder LCD, the Dell 3007WFP is good and priced decently at $1100 - $1200.

What about the FlexScan SX3031W ?

Read some other posts by this guy, he's actually asking what is the most expensive, not what is best.

I didn't ask for the most expensive, I was asking for something that will suite me the most, and will have the best overall rating.
Also, yeah I prefer putting more $, but get something I will enjoy for years to come

Spending more money to not buy junk is wise.
Throwing more money at more expensive solutions assuming they are better is not.

To me there are two choices, that depend on if you are going to do serious image editing:

Dell 3007 wfp: Lowest price, Lowest input lag for games, and good quality panel for everything else.
NEC 3090 with SV package: This is the one for image editors/graphics artist. You pay more for excellent internal calibration capabilities, but you also pay with a couple of frames of input lag.

The Dell 3008 likely has more input lag than the NEC, and doesn't have any internal calibration capability so seems like the worse choice to me.

The Eizos are just way overpriced and have *VA panels. I wouldn't buy one of these if I was sitting on a hoard of lotto winnings.

make sure you stay away from HP, their service is one of the worst and their screen when it goes to sleep mode, it can't go back to normal mode unless you unplug the power cord and re-connect. It's a popular defect that I've seen too often w/ HP

Im in the same situation as the op, and considerin either the dell 3008 wpf or the nec3090. Gaming and programming.

Is the input lag prohibitive for netgaming or is it just annoying for the über gamers? I mean, how big a deal is it?

Ok so lets put aside price and so on

What 30" is the best one for games? when it come to input lag and so on?

I've only ever experienced input lag firsthand once, and it was shocking. There's absolutely no way I could play games with more than a couple frames of input lag, and I consider myself a very casual gamer. If the 3008 has 'notably' bad input lag (enough for it to even be mentioned here) then there's no way I'd buy it.

Which is worse for gaming:
Input lag of Dell 3008WFP or the 12ms response time of Dell 3007WFP?
Is it true that a 2 frame input lag is equivalent to a 45ms response time?

I'd guess the NEC.

It's IPS for better viewing angles and they've (per its specs anyway) managed to get the contrast ratio up to something more competitive...

(It's a lot of money to pay for an LCD though. Would feel a lot better if we were talking about that kind of cash for an updated version of the GDM-FW900 CRT or OLED or something...)

Have a look at the new LG 30". It can be found in canada now, and hopefully the US soon.

If I could get any 30" monitor for gaming for free, I would choose the 30" Apple Cinema Display. The Dell 3007WFP-HC would be a close second. (I'd get the Dell, since I consider the cost)

Newer does not mean better.

For image/video editing, I'd get the NEC.

Pro monitors sacrifice speed for quality.

Another 30" option that is ideal for gaming and has low input lag is the HP LP3065. It has 3 Dual Link DVI inputs all HDCP capable which is more than the Dell 3007WFP-HC lcd that has only 1 x DVI.

good advice from Yelnats, didnt know the NEC 3090 would have MORE input lag since the qaulity is there, this would be bad for gaming.

I myself have the apple 30" and love it alot very good for gaming and doing photoshop, i would not like to have a 30" that would lag when im gaming. Now that i know this im NOT gonna upgrade my apple 30" for awhile.. was gonna get the NEC but due to the input lag screw that...

Have any of you played COD4 on the Samsung 305T? One word:

Stunning!

Yes, the 305T is a dreaded PVA panel... but I've yet to see a better gaming 30" LCD.

The Samsung 305T is a good 30" for gaming. The drawback though is that its DVI does not support HDCP.

The Samsung has an extra frame of lag compared to the Dell 3007 and Apple and HP.
I wish digitalversus.com would update their input lag tests.
My input lag test is accurate to 1-2 milliseconds with one picture.

When you say input lag are you talking about response time? I only ask because many people get these two things mixed up. The NEC 30" does have a response time of 6ms. Not to bad.

no wasnt talking about the response time but of the input lag from the video. I need to try the NEC 30" in person and game on it, to see if there is a detremental amount of lag.

Hopefully in the next few weeks some members will include their thoughts about it.

Too bad Apple has a panel lottery now too. It's not the same great panel it was when they first came out. They had to stay somewhat competitive so they changed panels.
I wanna wait and see what they do for a redesign and get one if its good enough.

Yea the HP LP3065 would be a great deal if you could actually buy it some place. The fact that you can't find it anywhere anymore makes me wonder if there is a new HP coming? I wanted to buy one but I cant' seem to find one except on Ebay and I worry about buying a monitor on Ebay. Even one new in box.

What are you talking about? They're still using IPS panels.
