Ok, so I've got a 13.3 in. macbook that I'm going to be selling soon, but before I do I have to fix the mouse. Tap clicking works, but the actual click button is non responsive. Any ideas? I'm really hoping this is just a simple driver issue or OS glitch, but I know those aren't exactly common for this OS. Here are the specs:
Max OS X 10.4.6
1.83 Intel Core Duo
1 GB DDR2
60gb Toshiba HD
(pretty stadard)

Does it physically still click? (like you can feel the tactile feedback)

If not try cleaning it out... sounds stupid, but I got crumbs in my MBP trackpad and it stopped the button from working... took me a week to figure out it was Oreo bits :(

haha! yeah it still physically clicks.
I tried running update... it's dead now.
Blasted thing won't even start up. It told me to press and hold the power button after shut down till the light blinked. When I did, it went to the update screen with the progress bar. Then it shut down and won't come back on.

oof. sounds like you botched a firmware update. is it plugged into ac power? if not try plugging in ac power and rebooting the macbook.

so what happens if it won't even boot with the power cord plugged in?
i haven't messed with a macbook mainboard a whole lot; is there a cmos to clear or what?

Can you boot to CD? How far into the boot process does it get? Do you get the bong and the logo and then it just shuts down? The more information, the better.

I had similar issues (albeit never with the trackpad) with my G4 iBook in summer 2006. I let it sit for a day and it finally decided to power back up. Then it died for good. When I got back to the US I took it to a local Apple service shop and they ended up having to swap the entire main logic board....hopefully this isn't your problem. They charged me $400.

well, nothing happens when i push the power button, even when plugged in :(

Ehhhh....that's bad. Could just be a bad power supply, but with all the other symptoms you're having it sounds (to me) like the dreaded Main Logic Board has failed. There are so many parts integrated in that board (as in most laptops) that when one thing fails you may just be done for.

Good news is that it won't cost you the whole price of the laptop to replace, but it is going to cost you (probably upwards of $400 with labor). I was looking at a Mac parts dealer's site earlier and G4 Pbook MLBs were going for upwards of $350.

ok... so i got the macbook back to semi working condition...
i had to charge the battery on my roommate's comp, then use it plus the 1.3 firmware restore disk, but it's working now... kind of.

It won't run from ac power, and it won't charge the battery... any suggestions?

ok, so i reset the smc, and same problem.
the battery works fine (charges etc) on my roommates computer. Also, the macbook recognizes when it's plugged in and when it's not, but the light on the power cord stays green and never turns red for charging. i'll try my roommate's power supply next, and after that i guess it's time to open it back up and see if i left anything unplugged from the mainboard... cest la vis...
