Hi,

Hope this post is in the appropriate forum.

I'm looking for recommendations for aftermarket heatsinks/fans for the following setup, for which I intend to overclock, specifically for the CPU and GPU. I'm not planning on watercooling.

CPU: E8400

video card: single EVGA 768-P2-N831-AR GeForce 8800GTX 768MB

Lian Li v1200 Plus II (obviously the recommended CPU and GPU heatsink should be able to fit in this case without any problem, since the mobo is situated BTX style)

mobo: Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3R

PSU: Corsair 620HX

RAM: Corsair Dominator 2x1GB, possibly 4x2GB if I upgrade to Vista x64 at a later date

HD: Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 ST31000340AS 1TB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s

I've waded through lots of posts (forgive me if this one is redundant), and haven't found any opinions particularly with regard to a CPU heatsink/fan that will fit properly in the Lian Li (I've read that some of the Lian Li's have problems with the larger heatsinks being able to fit).

I'm waiting to get the system and put it together to see whether the stock Lian Li fans are quiet enough for my taste (I'm adding a 120mm blowhole also), if not I would go with the Scythe S-Flex SFF21f fans, certainly for the 120mm blowhole fan I would install.

As always, thanks in advance for any suggestions/opinions!

I am @ 9x450 with a Zalman 9700
However it ran the same on the stock heatsink and fan.
Absolutly no diff in temps.

This chip is great and You are gonna love it.

Thanks for the reply!

Was there any noise difference with the Zalman?

If I remember correctly, another Thermalright user told me that only the Ultima 90 would fit in this case, where it would be exhausting out the back.

i have the v1000 which is the same config as your case. the ultra 120 or tuniq or any of the large tower heatsinks will not fit. you would have to cut a hole in the bottom plate. but the ultra 120 can be mounted horizontally (i dont know if any of the others can be mounted this way. i wanted to use the default cooling (rear 120 intake, side 120 exhaust) and i wanted to use the duct/fan thingie so i bought an ultima 90 which cools almost as good as an ultra 120, but fits in the lian li case in the correct orientation.

here is pic with ultra120 in horizontal mount. you can see that it would be too big to mount vertically.
