Antec 900 HD Audio vs. AC97...

My Antec 900 case has top input jacks and a hookup for both types (AC97 HDAudio)...

Appears my Abit QUAD GT will also accept either one...


Which one is better?

High Definition vs old crappy years old AC onboard

definitelygo with the HD, sounds just as good as my stock xtrememusic for music

I really didn't know....and it was kinda confusing w/both plugs on my case.

what does that have to do with the quality of sound? same dacs, same soundcard onboard, just different pin layout one for HD audio and one for AC 97, and I have to say my "onboard hd" sounds nothing like the X-FI
 
Yeah well you have an X-fi prelude buddy, how much did you pay for that and what opamps are on it compared to my xtrememusic?

Ask anybody, HD > AC97 whether you think so or not.

how is it any different? the case it self has the same plug with variable wire configs, you can also set in your bios on some motherboards front port to HD or AC97, so again how is it going to sound any different for headphones or a mic, when the same exact hardware is used either way?
 
Uh... what? Neither is better than the other. It just depends on which onboard sound your mobo has. Use the HD one if your board has the Realtek HD chip, and the AC97 connector if your board has that.

OK I understand what you're saying now, I was comparing 2 motherboards, one offering HD and one ac97.

BTW, just spent the last hour soldering a freaking opamp into my Xtrememusic ( AD8599 ) and whoa baby! lol
