Crysis - Play ‘ultra high’ setting with ‘high’ performance in XP

I put the tweak on, and then changed shadows from 768 to 512 and then tried 256.

i kept it on 256 but havnt seen a change in quality.

I kept everything on high and the rest will show up as custom.

What does that do?

Does it look like crap to anybody else? I'd rather just play in DX10 with mediocre high performance than DX9 crap graphics/performance.

I set everything to high in dx9, exited, unloaded cvars and systemcfg, changed systemcfg
moz-screenshot.jpg
to 512 from 768, added the sun rays, loaded dx9 back up, set everything to high again, applied, got this:

I don't know if this is how it normally looks in DX9 as I've always played in DX10, but it looks like crap to me, especially the water.

I think it changes the max shadow size, so your videocard works less. Changing it to 512 made my card gain 2 fps. So i figured i would keep it since i saw no difference in visual quality.

I think it looks crappy because you have that hazey look to it. try doing changing the values in your system.cfg to the values below.

someone found using my tweak there is a white glow around gun/hand in the dark area and i will a way to get rid of it and improve the lighting even further

change these two commands

r_ssao_amount=0.2
r_SSAO_darkening=3.6

It should darken the shadows (makes forests look a lot better!!! I love it with this, just tried it this morning.

Try that and post a pic, i know i had a haze look when i first installed the settings but then changed those values and now have a clear picture.

LOOKS AMAZING.

haha

that level was hard on my card too. Try a different level and see how it does. dx9 works a lot better than dx10

i lost too much performance with this tweak.

i run in DX9 all high settings, 4xAA with some DX10 tweaks via a system.cfg file, and it looks 99% as good.

r_MotionBlur=0
r_displayinfo=1
r_UsePOM=0
r_sunshafts=1
r_TexturesStreaming=0
r_TexResolution=0
r_colorgrading=1
q_Renderer=3
e_water_ocean_fft=1

I'll give those a try when i come home from school and work. Maybe those will improve performance even more. Sucks that you lost performance. Did you lose a lot of performance?

enough ;) 5-10, but when your averaging 30-35, 5-10 is too much.

Those waves are like that in Crysis...you just need to turn on Very High or the water tesselation ini tweak.

Also, here's all you need to have Crysis looking great and running well too:

ALL MEDIUM
HIGH Post Effects
HIGH Shaders

config file:
r_MotionBlur = 4
r_sunshafts = 1
r_Usepom = 1
r_TexAtlasSize = 2048

Without parallax occlusion mapping, motion blur and sun shafts, you don't have any of the "Very High" effects so I think those are by far the most important settings. You can also use water tesselation for better looking water although the water on High is really good already.

Don't bother using really high texture sizes, huge draw distances, etc. without those nice effects or it'll look like an old game with lots of trees and it'll run much slower than with my settings too! Most of the time you won't be staring at mountains and forests in the distance but the ones near you so there's no point in cutting your frame rate in half for nothing.

Is there some noob guide that tells you how to set up an autoconfig.exe file? I tried following stuff written here, and the incrysis forums, but it didn't work. Is there some guide that you can link me to, that will hold my hand so I can make my own custom config?

Side note, when I load up a level, and press the "~" key to see the console, it lists some errors. And when I play the game for like 5 minutes new errors pop up, but this does not effect my gameplay at all. Should I be worried about that? I'll post up pics of the errors if needed.

My specs are

q6600 @ 3.0ghz
8800gt 512 slightly above stock clocks
4gigs of ram
64bit Vista

I can play all high settings @ 1600x1200 in DX9, with ~30fps average in the jungle levels, I would like to add more eye candy with a minor performance hit if I could.

you can also instead of a autoconfig.cfg, set up a System.cfg and put it into your crysis directory "game" folder. The system.cfg is already included in the zip located on the first page. Try that. Anything you need you can just edit into the System.cfg

autoexec.cfg not .exe

ALL MEDIUM
HIGH Post Effects
HIGH Shaders

config file:
r_MotionBlur = 4
r_MotionBlurShutterSpeed=0.04
r_sunshafts = 1
r_useedgeaa = 2
r_Usepom = 1
r_TexAtlasSize = 2048

Everyone use that for great performance and graphics.

Hey, Big.D

Could you post some screen shots the gameplay with your config?

I'm at work and will try this when I get home. I just wanna see how it looks.

Big D's config works pretty well.

ALL MEDIUM
HIGH Post Effects
HIGH Shaders

config file:
r_MotionBlur = 4
r_MotionBlurShutterSpeed=0.04
r_sunshafts = 1
r_useedgeaa = 2
r_Usepom = 1
r_TexAtlasSize = 2048

I'm running Vista 64bit. Test level was Recovery in a very gpu intensive section.

Here is what I noticed:

DX9 Big D config = 38fps Game looks good. Only a few things stood out as low res such as the texture on wood fences and some spots on the ground and such.

DX10 Big D config =33fps Game looks just like DX9 but with worse performance.:rolleyes:

DX10 Very High = 22fps Game looks great, but is some what choppy.

DX10 Very High vs DX9 BigD config = BigD config is the winner. So much smoother to play and you really don't notice the small degradation in graphics.

I have not tested interiors yet to see if there is a difference...

Here's some "Ultra High" Crysis... that's not playable on any single card hardware today but looks amazing. I downloaded a map called Savanna2Jungle from CryMod I think it was. Loaded it up in DX9 DevMode. This was on Vista x64, so XP should fair 2-3 FPS better I'd say. Also done on 1680x1050 so if anyone if using a higher resolution... hope you've got multiple cards! DX10 actually doesn't do too much worse in terms of performance but that's most likely since the DX9 performance is already pretty low to begin with.

(Here's about 50 enemies attacking me, good thing I was using God Mode)

(And a NUKE for some fun! Not even my Q6600 wants to deal with the physics here.)

Great shots!

So is it pretty much a consensus that Vista vs XP results in an FPS of at the most 5fps drop?

That's pretty much what I've noticed. Specifically to that map, running through dense jungle the FPS seems to be very steady, even running around with super speed in God Mode.

DX9 Vista64: 17-19FPS
DX10 Vista64: 15-16FPS
DX9 XP32: 20-21FPS

Fighting the jungle causes a slight drop, and cause the game to stutter quite noticeable at times. XP32 seems to handle those better as well, but that could be because it maintains a higher FPS overall (and a lower minimum FPS). XP32 is clearly better than Vista64 DX9 or DX10 for Crysis.

blade52x

YGPM asking for a link to that map. I bet the OP's config would make your fps a lot better. When i get home i will test it out and post some screenies if you link me to that map.

Last night I decided to take the plunge and upgrade to Vista (32bit). I purchased Ultimate when it was released and immediately upgraded. A few months went by and after Crysis was released I downgraded citing the performance issues.

Well I've contemplated returning to vista and I've noticed many of you (especially where Crysis is concerned) making remarks of improvement in performance with vista.

This is a fresh install as of last night, I let vista get all the upgrades, made sure all the indexing was done, and defraged the HD. I also let vista sit there for a few hours so it can "do it's thing and organize itself". I also made sure to update Crysis to 1.1 .

While I do really like vista over XP (stability, UI, quick response time and memory usage) I have to say that over all I'm not thrilled (again) with the performance in Crysis. I know it's only one game, and let me say COD4's performance is great at full settings (1680x1050) with AAx4 in MP and SP. Using the very high details fix (shadows med) I'm sorry to report that overall I prefer XP. Not only is there an overall difference of about 5-10fps average, the game under vista (DX9) happens to dip into the teens quite often when there are a few enemies on screen shooting at me (see pics).

I'm not sure if Vista isn't setup properly (but I can't see how that could be) and I clearly seem to remember not at all dipping into the teens in XP with the very high spec files.

Sorry to say, I'm considering going back to XP. Vista, I'm going to miss you (again).

Savanna2Jungle is not really a good map. The maker uses textures meant for distant mountains for all the rocks so if you walk up to them, the POM (Parallax Occlusion Mapping) gets all screwed up and wavy and distorted.

Also, it doesn't really look that good, but the maker cranked up the HDR to insane levels so basically there's no sky, it's just blinding light and it looks really fake IMHO. Everywhere it's just light bleeding onto everything else. Also the Time of Day is also very exaggerated. One moment, they sky is blinding, then suddenly it's the middle of the night with no stars. It's really odd.

The biggest issue is that he doens't know how to include spawned enemies at a distance so if you use your usual Crysis tactics of sneaking up on a village without tripping a specific trigger by walking over the regular road (I like to sneak over mountains or forests to hit a base from the side), no enemies will spawn in that village. I played through the whole mod and all the villages were deserted, simply because I snuck in from the side instead of walking through the main road. Also, in the beginning of the game, Prophet & Co. take a Humvee and they are supposed to meet me later. But unfortunately, that part is bugged and they often crash a lot. They crashed and their car exploded so later on, they are speaking but they aren't actually there because they are still stuck at the beginning.

It's a user created custom map...you can't expect much.
