I'm looking around at monitors and none seem perfect to me. So the question is, what's the perfect LCD monitor?

Not what's being offered that's closest, but if you could write the specs down for the best LCD monitor in the world, what would the specs be?

S-IPS?
8ms? 16ms?
24" 1920x1200? 27" 1920x1200?
Black plastic bezel? Aluminum bezel? Clear lucite bezel?
Portable stand that folds up into the back?
Card reader integrated? USB ports integrated?
Speakers or no speakers?

What would your perfect LCD be like?

If using the technology that is available today, and not some future project that hasn't been released, then I would say:

30", 1920x1200 (so I can run apps without SLI), 100,000:1 contrast (LED backlight), NO speakers, glossy black bezel (similar to a Samsung LCD TV), adjustable stand, a DVI and 3 HDMI inputs, proper scaling...etc etc

24" 1920x1200, IPS, LED backlighting, ultrathin black bezel.

Have been waiting forever, and it seems like i still have alot of waiting to do.

Perfect computer display:

  • 24" H-IPS panel or a newer IPS panel that improves blacks and response time closer to TN.
  • 1920x1200 of course, anything larger is overkill for games or movies.
  • GtG response less than 8ms
  • LED back light for 10,000:1 contrast (after all, its a small monitor)
  • At least 1 HDMI input, 1 Displayport input, and 1 DVI-D input. Ideally add in a S-Video input.
  • Swivel base, at least 45 degrees of tilt, and heigh adjustment
  • Proper scaling from all input sources

Dell 2707 with S-IPS panel and black aluminum instead of silver. Sounds like a 3008WFP? LOL 3008 is too big and 2k dollars is too much! I think 27" 1920x1200 is perfect in every way except that noone makes an S-IPS and the PVA color shift is quite annoying, but I have to live with it for 27" 1920x1200 (Readable text when web surfing) :(

36"
7680x4800 (perfect scaling for 1600p, 1200p, and 800p)
some kind of IPS with LED backlighting or FED/SED if they ever come out.

First, 48bit color.
Next, for contrast ratio, no contrast ratio. Each pixel is lit individually. :)
Then, expandable screen.
No set res
Crt Response Time.
Infinite screen life time. :p

wait perfect lcd screen?

ummm, 24inch 1:1 (1080p) S-IPS (or better) with no imput lag/ghosting. Under $200 :D

+1
Although I'd go up to $399, but they'd have to throw in H/W calibrator and 12 bit LUT.

Mine:
- 30 inch 2560x1600
- S-IPS or better
- Dozens of inputs. HDMI/Display port/DVI/VGA/Component/Composite/S-video/Coax/etc
- 8 ms or smaller
- PiP/PbP with any of said inputs with no restrictions.
- 1:1 ratio with no overscan/scaling problems on the first firmware
- 0 input lag WITH a scaler
- LED backlit
- Remote
- Removable speaker attachment
- Under $600
- Lifetime warranty

Get moving on that LCD makers.
