Had my build running for just a little bit with a new coolmaster rc-690, and the side intake fan is already making some annoying sounds.. I had a couple cheapy replacements from a long long time ago but they are pretty loud.

What's a decent replacement that is quite and I shouldn't have to worry about for a while?

Thanks

I tried the Coolermaster that came with the case: noisy at 60% fan speed.
I tried a Scythe S-Flex 120mm: noisy at 60% fan speed.
I tried a Nexus Real Silent 120mm (see below): much better. This weekend I will attach the fan with a couple of rubber grommits to reduce the remaining noise. I like the case very much, but it's quite noisy with a fan attached to the side panel.

what you could do is attach dynamat or other similar sound deadening material on the inside of that door panel. that will deaden the vibrations causing the noise. Not saying a better fan won't help...but combine the dynamat with a better fan and it should 100x better.

uhhhh.. which Scythe S-flex and was the airflow the same when comparing noise to the Nexus? Silent PC Review rates the S-flex very highly and of course the Nexus also. Last review I saw had them pretty close in airflow/noise. Noctua was the best of the fans tested. Ive owned a Nexus and S-flex but I prefer the S-flex.

Maybe the S-Flex isn't really meant to be attached to a side panel. There was a very loud buzz so maybe the engine vibrates a little more than the Nexus? With the Nexus there's only a minor buzzing sound.

Havent had any buzzing noises from mine but where you using the 1600, 1200, or 800 rpm models of the S-flex... I could see where the 1600 could create some buzzing at that RPM on a side panel.

I used the 1600rpm version of the Sythe S-Flex but only at about 900rpm (yeah, I know I probably bought the wrong version). Even at 600 rpm or so it would vibrate, so I put the Nexus back in (with a fan resistor cable). Now it's pretty much quiet.
The side panel bulges a bit so that may contribute to the noise too. I'm replacing it with a windowed side panel when it will become available in January.

Yes, the buzzing is less pronounced but still there.

It's bees. Switch over from 110v to 220v, let that blue smoke out of the board and components and it should smoke those bees right out. Buzzing solved. :p

On a more serious note, have you tried using sound deadening material? Dynamat or other similar product? I had an old Inwin case years ago that was notorious for vibration because of the large side panels (full tower). I applied a cheap alternative to dynamat (don't remember the brand) and the difference was amazing.

The side vent isn't buzzing it is whistling due to the hole shapes with proximity of the fan blade to them.

I made a 1/4" spacer out of lexan and the noise went away completely with S-Flex fans in use, same thing applys to the top grill and the backside of motherboard grills.

I intend on just using a sheetmetal nibbler and cutting out those grills which should also do it.
