It can't do anything. Ipod store said they could replace for $100 or give me 20% off a purchase. Is there anyway it can fixed and how much would it cost? I'm in Seattle if that helps.

well like I said, it can't do anything. There's no physical damage. When I plug into my computer it flashes between the apple support website with lighted screen, apple support website with unlighted screen, do not disconnect screen, a blank screen, and the apple logo; all in about 1.5 seconds, over and over again. When I unplug it it keeps a faded image of whatever screen it was on last. No buttons or combinations of buttons have any effect on it.

I guess I'm kind of wondering what kind of 3rd party fix it places are there?

i think this may be a software problem. try get hold of the apple firmware and find some tool to force flash the ipod.

Try a hardware Reset. Hold the middle button and the top button to do a reset.

that doesnt reset the hardware, its just a hard reboot.

Hi there, ive been reading this site for quite a few years. However this is my first post. I tried to post it yesterday but i had to wait on the approval process. What you need is a firmware "reset" of sorts. It is not guaranteed to fix it but its worth a shot. Here is what you have to do.

A) If your iPod is not up to date have iTunes download the lates firmware update for it. Then look up how to put your iPod into safe/disk mode. It is simply a combo of buttons to be pressed. However the combo is different for all the models of iPods. Now if your iPod is still in good shape as far as hardware is concerned then this will allow you yo update your iPod in iTunes effectively re-flashing the firmware.

B) If your iPod is up to date it makes this a little more complicated. Try to once again get your iPod into safe/disk mode. Now hopefully you can view your iPod as a hard disk on your PC. Once this is possible you need to go in there set folder options to view hidden then look for a file called sysinfo should be in the hidden folder ipod_control/device. Once you open that in notepad look for the line buildID: 0x06108000 or just buildID followed by numbers that are specific to ur iPod. That is basically the number that corresponds to the firmware version of your iPod. try lowering the second non zero number by 1. That should fool iTunes into thinking that your iPod is out of date and you can re-flash the firmware.

Hope that helps. If you cant get your iPod to get visible on your iTunes or as a disk on your pc then its likely a hardware issue. Were you would have to take it to Apple and pay fortune for them to just give you a refurbished one that looks like yours and charge you a crazy price.

works now :)

I'm kind of pissed the apple store didn't do that instead of telling me I had to buy a new one.
