Ok guys, a quick question, I'm running CoreTemp Beta 0.93, and it reports my "Tjunction" as 85'c...

What exactly does this 85'c really mean? Thanks :)

I think it means the maximum temp before the processor starts throttling???

Yeah, that's what I've narrowed it down too as well, it just seems strange that everyone is quoting "61" as the max junction temp, when there's no official spec (as far as I can tell).

Not to mention there's lots of debate over this value too.

Also, older CoreTemps report this temp as "Tcase" so, eh...

The 60.1C that was referred to, is the maximum Tcase temperature for a 65W TDP Core 2 Duo. However, TCase is at the top center of the CPU package.

!!!!!!!!!!! WRONG !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! about Tjunction.

Tjunction is where the chip will shut itself down to avoid damage (unless you disabled these sorts of protections in BIOS, but the chip should still lock up hard anyway, as this is done within the chip and not through the BIOS).

Tcasemax is where the chip will throttle itself, and throttles can be disabled in BIOS.

Tcasemax was "85C" on P4 northwoods, and the "tjunction" was 120C.
Now the throttling temp is 61C (Tcasemax) and the "lockup" protection temp is 85C.

TJunction is measured at the junction between the processor die and the CPU package PCB. A Core 2 Duo only begins to throttle at 85C TJunction.

Im showing a Tjunction of 100c on my C2D E6850, is that normal? I see everyone saying 85c is the norm.

Thanks!
