Project "Impossible Modding"

Even using this big spacer I've a trouble, a major trouble :

DSC06601.JPG

The rad can't be rotated, it touch the ram...

DSC06605.JPG

Whitout the spacer everything fit ok, so I'll use the spacer only for the rear rad, but I don't see any other solution...
Maybe cutting the ram... :)

DSC06606.JPG

This is the rad from the outside of the case...
I'm a lucky man, really lucky!

With the corsair RAM, you should be able to cut the fins of the heatsinks down without hurting anything.

Using a thinner fan is an option, but my sponsor at Enermax gave me this, they don't have thinner moderl :-(

Cutting the that spreader of the ram is the last solution if the pump don't work well, but is really the LAST solution, I don't want to damage this expensive ram!

ASAP more up, I'm in hurry, I must finish this mod the 16 october, the 17 will be at Enermax stand at smau, www.smau.it

Maybe a brass fitting to put the nipple on a 45% angle

Or solder a copper tube into the radiator inlet. Silver solder would be good for that bend the tube and put the nipple where you need it

Maybe an L bracket to raise the radiator above the ram . Not sure on how much room you have to work with .

Exactly..
I have no space to adopt similar solution...
the easiest way is to change the fan, but my sponsor gave me this model...
Probably in future I'll change the fans, but not now...
After the vid card work, now it's the time for the cpu!

DSC06593.JPG

Screws and bolts, not so good looking...

DSC06597.JPG

No, I don't like this setup...
I'll redo later, now I want to test the mosfet wb!

Tapping to 1/4 GAS :

DSC06661.JPG

then, working with sandpaper from 400 grit to 1200 grit :

DSC06663.JPG

First positioning test :

DSC06664.JPG

Ok, now I can do the holes for the screws!

This is how I'm planning to fix in place :

DSC06665.JPG

M3 stainless steel screws, stainless steel spacer and rubber grommets ...
First mockup :

DSC06667.JPG

The assembly scheme is easy :
screw-spacer-grommets
motherboard
grommets-spacer-bolt
Now I have to wait the chrome guys, in the meantime I have to change the look of the cpu waterblock...
Taking all apart :

DSC06669.JPG

Now, let me think about the best looking way....

First, flat head screw, M4*40mm .
Then, the assebly scheme :
screw-spacer-grommet-plastic spacer
motherboard
plastic spacer-grommet-spacer and bolt.
Best to show you an image :)

DSC06670.JPG

I've reused the SAT calbe connector, I love the look that they give to the wb!

DSC06672.JPG

The finishing touch is an hex bolt and an M5 allen screw to secure the wb in the middle.
Now, what do you think about this setup?

New toy to play with!

DSC06624.JPG

Tuning style remote control, 4 channel, 36 euros shipped.
I must give credit for this idea to Domy15, Dialmo and TheX.
Little cabling scheme :

DSC06627.JPG

the mini control :

DSC06631.JPG

I love the little antenna! 007 Style rulez!

Package content :

DSC06628.JPG

Double side tape : plugs, screws, base unit and remote control. The dimension are 13cm * 10cm and the height is 3cm at the top.

DSC06634.JPG

Taking a look inside, not so fantastic...
Mini test :

Test del radiocomando

I'm in love with this little gadget!
I suppose I'll use the four output to contol the internal light, but at this time I don't know...

Now, one step backward...
Let's do more wring for the titan extender. do you remeber the special axt extension calbe that is shipped with the cooler?

DSC06639.JPG

I need to have 3 separate lines , and I don't want to have 3 extension.
So, afer a quick search in my favourite electronic shop, I've found this :

DSC06638.JPG

I don't know the name in english, in italian is "rubacorrente".
With this little item you can split a wire without cutting it, only a little perforation on the rubber shield and you're ready!

DSC06640.JPG

This is the GND line, after this I've done even the +5v line.

Final result :

DSC06641.JPG

Testing all :

DSC06642.JPG

Ok!
Now this extension cable will be splitted in 3 little cables using a faston connector :

DSC06712.JPG

And now, an other piece of the mod is ok, let's go on...

Remaking the ide/sata block for the optical drive, I need to re-arrange all to accomodate even the remote.
I suppose to place the remote on the top of the unit, held in place with velcro or double sided tape ...:

DSC06643.JPG

To have more space to play i've reduced ( a bit ) the drive box :

DSC06644.JPG

Now, meditation, some beers and lots of mars with my dog...
This is the result of my meditation (or I'm too drunk?)

DSC06647.JPG

Please note the free space...

Now let's talk about the light inside of this CaBe...
At this stage I don't have enought time to order some mini white neon, so use some white led...
I want to use 12 leds , in groups of 3, every group linked to the radio control.

DSC06683.JPG

A mess of cables.... First mockup :

DSC06695.JPG

At this time, only black tape to have an idea about the placement :

DSC06699.JPG

A lot of hot glue, faston and minivice :)

Need more hot glue on the top of the faston, but this is near the final result :

DSC06701.JPG

Really first night test :

DSC06702.JPG

Ok, not so bad, but in future I want to use some strip led end maybe even two mini white neon. Now let me see if any screw of the wb touch the led, cables or faston...

DSC06706.JPG

Only this side is a little raised, a quick fixing? A longer screw and some rubber grommets :)
At the end of this mod, nodoby can see this angle, so it's not a matter !

Whitout the spacer everything fit ok, so I'll use the spacer only for the rear rad, but I don't see any other solution...
Maybe cutting the ram... :)
No! Please don't! It's such beautiful ram. :D Awesome mod btw, I looked through all the pages.

This piece of the CaBe is near ready, I've only to prepare the molex connector , here you can see it :)

DSC06710.JPG

Take a look at the mess of cables :)

DSC06716.JPG

Particular shot ...
Mobo in place, finally :

DSC06717.JPG

Now I can plug in all the tubes :)
Firts items : mosfet wb, chromed!

DSC06713.JPG

Other "money shot" :

DSC06714.JPG

Good chroming, 10 euros, not so much expensive...
All the compression fittings mounted, I've to use a curve joint, because the rear rad touch a bit...

DSC06718.JPG

Not so bad, 24 hours of testing and they will be ready!

Until the end of the test, I must work to the mini tank...
Sacrifical tank, for free from _FAX_ , let's start by tapping the filling hole to 1/4GAS :

DSC06721.JPG

Two more holes, tapped 1/4GAS :

DSC06724.JPG

This is the main idea of the placement :

DSC06726.JPG

I was insipred by the ideas of Nikos, the OcLabs guy, this is his product :

xpresproto.jpg

I suppose that some modder will pick up this res, it's really interesting!
You can download even a video from here , it's amazing!
Now that the test are ok, I do the same work on my res .
This is a close up of the tapping :

DSC06731.JPG

As Cheapskate told in his worklog, I've used some vasel grease to let the tapping go well, it's really useful!

DSC06735.JPG

In place, but without the connector ...

DSC06742.JPG

I suppose it's ok for me!
And for you?

Let's place some tubing :

DSC06739.JPG

Mosfet :

DSC06750.JPG

And more tubing :

DSC06751.JPG

It's like a jungle inside here!
Going on with tubing :

DSC06752.JPG

Now the last piece of tube is the main tube, the one that go from the pump to the top mosfet block, but I want to do a test to see if the pump can work with this tube in place :

Testing the pump

Ok, it works, so it's time to connect the last piece of Tygon...
May we try the rig? (poor light condition, sorry)

Last filling (poor light condition, sorry)

Ok, it work! So, now I won the bet with Antanio!
LOL

It's about 1 year that I want to write this phrases extracted from the CaBe forum :

antanio : nessuno ci fa stare il liquido perchè non ci sta (translation : nobody is able to put liquid inside because it won't fit at all)

F1R3BL4D3 : Integrato è impossibile! (translation : integrated is impossible!)

febrone : il liquido nn c'entra .... (translation : liquid won't fit )

A big tnx fly out to F1R3BL4D3 because the name of this project is inspirated by his comment...

Now that I show to all that the Liquid CaBe is possible, and it's real, let's tale a closer look at the flow of the water in the res :

DSC06756.JPG

Ok, it works well! Now, I've told to someone that I want a lcd display inside this case... I've choosen a little one :

DSC06758.JPG

Alphacool, graphic lcd, 240*128 pixel, blue light, usb link, 100 euros used...illuminato blu, connessione usb, bella bestia!
First, take apart the frame :

DSC06761.JPG

Perfect! Now I have only to fabricate something to hold it in place...
See you soon!

WOW!

all the little details you have done with this have really amazed me.

The harddrives are really comfortable, they get not only heatsinks and fans, but waterblocks aswell.. amazing!

Just read the whole thread!

Freaking amazing detail, and your obsession with chrome!

Is today the deadline, is everything finished?

Everything is finished now, but only the first step...
:)
Last week I was on holiday, so I pick up my wife and the dog and went in Trentino.
Beatiful landscape, beautiful people and good food :)
We have even the opportunity to meet one of my idols, G69T, and the opportunity to take a look to his workshop...
Amazing!
He even gave us a piece of his Dark Blade, I'm really proud of this piece, is part of myth!
Im future I will put some pics of the meeting, if you like to see more...

Anyway, go on with the mod!
Raw cardboard model :

DSC06764.JPG

Same design, but in a piece of alu :

DSC06810.JPG

I've tried a new way to bend alu, because I need a 45° angle...
Let's use the Dremel with this bit :

DSC06811.JPG

My idea is to trace a line in the alu, really tick, about 2/10mm that allow me to bend it easy...
Here is the line traced :

DSC06813.JPG

Now I have only to bend it...
Not so easy, I've used two school rulers (ok, the word is incorrect, I know...) to help me to reach the correct bend :

DSC06820.JPG

The angle is perfect, I'm really happy with this way of bending!

First test :

DSC06821.JPG

Not perfect, but it can go well...
Now let's take some more measure with the lcd display :

DSC06829.JPG

Now let's cut with the electric saw :

DSC06831.JPG

More work with the file, but I'm on the right way :)
Now it's the sponsor time!
I would like to say a big tnx to every sponsor that help me to make this mod real and not only in my mind... I've prepared a big sticker with all the logos to place inside the CaBe, here is how I've picked up the right measure :

DSC06808.JPG

I must say a big tnx to Dual, LaFelpa and Ettina , I hate Illustrator and they have spent some time to redraw all the logos in AI for me...
First placement test :

DSC06823.JPG

After the test, the stick on phase!

After a good cleaning of the surface, I'm ready to stick it, but I need some ingredients :
Xacto knife, spatula and soapy water :

DSC06822.JPG

A big amount of soapy water :

DSC06824.JPG

Placing the sticker :

DSC06825.JPG

Now with the help of the soapy water you can place the sticker in the place that you like :)
Taking off the water with the spatula :

DSC06826.JPG

Take a good care to use a piece of protective paper on the spatula, and gently press the sticker to pull out the soapy water.

DSC06827.JPG

Side view and top view :

DSC06828.JPG

Now the sticker must dry for at least 24 hours...
See you soon!

Now it's time to put the lcd panel in place :

DSC06834.JPG

It fit ok, but I need to polish it!
First, a quick use of CFG, high grit polish :

DSC06835.JPG

Then a long use of Iosso :)
After the last use of Iosso with my banchdrill, I've used some cotton by hand, here is the result :

DSC06840.JPG

Not so bad, but I can do more...
The borders are horrbile!

DSC06841.JPG

Self adhesive protective borders for car doors, like the C-trim , but less flexible and more cheaper!

DSC06843.JPG

Display cabling :

DSC06842.JPG

I have room for the two usb key that I want to use...
This is a little add-on :

DSC06748.JPG

It's the AcRyan Backy, a bracket with a molex, a ESATA plug and a fan-type plug, I won this on the MoM contest, so I want to show it :)
Cleaning the floor I found this scrap piece :

DSC06832.JPG

I hate to throw it away, so ...

DSC06833.JPG

Not the best, but with a piece of T411 I've glued it in place and for the moment I keep this piece in, but in future I suppose to remove it...

Last works, I need something to help me to fill the loop :

DSC06844.JPG

This is a Thermaltake spare parts from my bin, it's an adaptor from 6mm to 9mm, this is what I was looking at! I hold it in place using a o-ring joined to a spring.
Now let's plug all the mess : usb, power, reset, led, backy and so on :

DSC06846.JPG

I suppose that everytinh is in place, some more pics :

DSC06847.JPG

And now, the final photo session!
In my garden, for the first time in 8 months outside the labo :

Next upload will be the photo session at SMAU show, are you interested?
Comments?
Suggestions?
Remember, this is not the end of the mod , it's only the end of the mod to show it at SMAU, after that I have in mind to change something...
Well, more than something :)

Your not done with modding it

seems like your running out of space

Looks great

maybe some clear plexi instead of the smoked to show off all your hard work

Excellent.
I love the smoked Plexiglas and feel that it gives it a subtle look. I would not change to clear.

Question - You mentioned receiving a piece of Dark Blade from G69T. I am assuming that he gave you an unused part from the CNC process and that he hasn't taken apart his masterpiece. Correct?

By the way, the work you were looking for "school ruler" is "triangle".

Getting back to your build, I think it's amazing. Because of the titled motherboard and tygon tubing, several pics remind me of a V8 engine. Very cool.

rigormortem so when will this case be available to the united states? i really want it..

I0ve managed to find some extra space, and I've found it :)
Yes, G69T give me an extra piece of this creature, if I can I post some pics...
At this time, the cabe is now open on my table, to add something inside, but the main pc that I use to update the worklog, a old laptop, is near to dead.... So I need to backup all data, tedious process...
In future you will have more update, I promise!

Thats the most beautiful piece of craftsmanship I've seen in a good while, very VERY good job rigor :)

I'm in on the "use clear Plexiglas", I think it be worthwhile to let the insides of the case get some more attention, the smoked plexi is too view restrictive in my opinion.

Other than that, keep up the good work!
